The tune is an old British Army drinking song. Can't you just see a slobbering drunk belting out:

" ... and the rocket's red flaaaaaaair ..... the bombs bursting in aaaaaaaair ...."

and your point is?

I think the point is it's just a little ludicrous to expect a black person to have any respect for a song written by a racist slave owner. Personally I don't do the national pride thing in the traditional corporate government sense of blind patriotism and dedication to a painted rag and silly song. Those things are created and designed to fester sentiments of inequality and justify all kinds of horrendous actions.

His refusal did what he wanted it got people talking about the issue he is
complaining about. Secondly I saw the typical response to American
overreaction we will burn his uniform number. When are people going to
grow up? I stand for our National Anthem in Canada, I even grudgingly
Stand for the Queen though I am not a Monarchist . Why? Because to me
its not worth raising a fuss about or I don't need the attention that comes with
it. I do have issues with things in life and what is I find is no matter what they
are childish actions or childish reactions don't solve anything

I do not stand for any national anthem and surely wouldn't rise (or kneel) for Lizzie or her kin (of which I am one distantly). I don't make it a big issue, it's a personal choice. Others can stand or not as they choose, not my business if they want to worship a song or a colourful rag or another human.

"worshiping" has nothing to do with it. Respect has everything to do with it.

Respect for what? For a corporate logo? For a song? For the idea that Liz is so much superior to me by divine right?

I respect freedom and people that pursue freedom while maintaining a social conscience. I will not respect idiotic nationalistic symbols that represent the corporation of the oligarchs. My choice as a free person.

I see, your choice as a free person, but not someone elses choice. Gotcha.

What issue is that? I see discussion about his worth, or more likely lack of it, as an NFL QB. If I was the 49ers, I would cut is worthless a-s-s. But as a Seahawks fan, I hope they start him.

He was a hell of a talent but now he's a self important head case.

Not so sure anymore. He was different type of QB (him and Russel Wilson). NFL defenses adapted. He didn't. Russel Wilson did.

Just got an update that he intends to sit for all the anthems until the "issues are addressed". Perhaps the issue can be resolved by a roster cut.

It's not like there is a law requiring you to stand although there may be something in his contract or league rules of conduct.

Well actually yes. I choose to sit during the song...you can choose to stand. That's what is so great about freedom G...we all make our own decisions and choices.

That's right, and there are consequences for every decision, action, or inaction.

Women & children abused: silence. Millions forced to drink unsafe drinking water: Quiet. The Earth you live upon being not-so-slowly destroyed by greed: crickets.
But please let your righteous indignation be loud and clear when an athlete refuses to stand during the national anthem. - Lydia Davis

It's a matter of motive Cliffy. Kinda like De Caprio crying about global warming or Nugent bellering about gun control. Famous people taking on a cause is in most cases about brushing up their own image. That being said I would tend to agree in principle.
