Good idea. Testing should be mandatory, as one of the requirements for immigration. As well, a minimum skill set should also be a requirement. While one does not need to be a doctor or an engineer, certain trades might be allowed in. Trades where one can be certified to a US or Canadian standard BEFORE leaving the originating country. No exceptions.
Electricians, plumbers, auto mechanics for example have certification.
A VERY LIMITED number of freeloaders should be allowed in. The so called "political refugees" need intensive and extensive screening. It should take years, not weeks, to be allowed in.
For well off immigrants with no criminal record or questionable past, buying a limited entry visa should be entertained. A fee equivalent to 50 to 75% of their net worth. The money would go into paying off the national debt. Any legal troubles - drug cartels, capital offenses or other troubles such as murder, assault, fraud mean instant deportation. No prolonged legal arguments will be entertained while the accused remains on US or Canadian soil. Appeals can be initiated in their county of origin. No exceptions.
We have been far, far too lenient on these people. Time to crack the whip and reverse the damage uncontrolled immigration has caused.

Thanks for the video. While it had nothing to do with my previous post about immigration, you did open the door for further discussion about who gets let in our countries.
The video you provided clearly indicates that Trump wants to eliminate the Islamic threat in the US. Good idea. Hopefully Justin's handlers will follow suit. His dad could get tough when needed. Those of you that were around and old enough in 1970 will remember what I mean. Terrorism and murder within our borders is not wanted, and must not be tolerated.

Here are some other planks to a sound platform.
Bring back the death penalty. Medical testing has advanced far enough that executing the wrong person is a non-event. In the unlikely case it happens, I refer everyone to a truism from one of the Star Trek movies, The Wrath of Khan.
"Logic clearly dictates that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few." Kirk adds, "Or the one."
Works for me.
Anyone within our borders convicted of terrorism shall see all his assets seized by the state to further the fight to stop it and/or pay down the national debt. That means any surviving immediate family members will have to work and start over. Be a terrorist and it will negatively impact on your family.
Start building up stocks of limited dispersal, tactical nuclear weapons. Let them taste the fire. Oh wait, there are some of them floating around in unnamed inventories already. We can always use more.
You cannot pussie foot around. North America suffers from a liberal attitude toward peace and freedom. That's because most of you have not been shot at, blown up, had family members killed or seen death and destruction daily in downtown Toronto. That attitude of ' it can't happen here' is being used against us by the Muslims. They are getting away with things that they simply would not tolerate within their own borders. We only need to watch the news. Europe is melting.
