The Jays win and the Pens lose. The Pens win and the Jays lose. I'm almost at the point where I hope the Jays drop another one on Thursday just to ensure the Pens take their series with TB. Only kidding IRBS but it sure is funny that that is the way things have been going. The Pens have the night off so that should mean that the Jays will win their game with the Yanks tonight.

On nights where the Marlies, Raptors and Jays were playing it always seemed that only 1 of those teams would pick up the win. I am sure it is just random co-incidence.

Jays lost 6-0 to Yankees last night (they were the only Toronto team playing so there was no excuse). Dickey took the loss but didn't pitch poorly trailing 2-0 into bottom of 7th when he faltered a bit and was pulled. The bullpen did the rest. New stupid lineup fails miserably against a good team. Further into the cellar we go.

BTW. Hope the Pens win game 7.

as long as the sharks win tonight, I don't care what the other hockey teams do, so tonight sharks win
and jays win, that will do it for me. Estrada pitching, I like watching him.

Tonight the pitching is not so hot but the Jay's batters came alive. Martin has two homers on the night 8O Saunders has a homer. We're at the bottom of the 5th and the Jays lead the Yanks 7 - 1........I really did not expect this at all though I must say it is exciting when it happens.

Talloola, that is so nice of you to wish the Pens well - thank you very much.

Make that 7 - 3. Back to back home-runs that Estrada just gave up........like I said the pitching isn't so good.

Make it 8 - 3 after a base hit by Edwin sent Joey home. The Jays have done most of their scoring tonight with two out.

8 - 4 final for the Jays......in Yankee Stadium..........good on ya guys.

The Sports Gods were smilin' on both my teams tonight I see. Didn't watch the game as I worked up until 5 minutes prior to the drop of the puck in Game 7. Just watching Highlights of the Night and see the Jays beat the Yanks for two in a row. Rock on Jays.

Oh, I see they win the series too, forgot it was a 3-gamer. Looks good on the scoreboard. I see they will be at home to host the Red Sox. Should be an interesting series too.

I have a feeling that Joe Kelly if given his druthers would rather not ever play in the Rogers Center again. He sure doesn't do well there....heh, heh, heh.

Matt Barnes has come in to relieve Kelly in the bottom of the 5th and he gets the out but Kelly will be tagged with Smoaks HR.......heh, heh, heh.

Jays are ahead 5 - 2 going into the 6th. Sanchez holding his own allowing only 3 hits so far but good to see the bats helping out. 3 up and 3 down for Sanchez who has retired 7 straight - as Buck just stated.

2 homers, a double and a single..........so far ...oh and I think there might have been a couple of RBIs.

You Go Josh.

Jays ahead 7 - 5 top of the 9th. Osuna on the mound.

Osuna seals the deal and the Jays take game 1 against the 'division leading' red hot Sox 7 - 2.

Barney gets a lead-off double bottom of the 3rd followed by Pillar with a double that scores Darwin and the Jays are ahead 1 - 0

Joey gets a single that sends Pillar to 3rd and leaves him on 1rst - Josh up to bat with nobody out.

Josh takes ball four and the bases are loaded.

Edwin comes to the plate - he's already had a double.

Edwin gets hit with a pitch and Pillar comes into score. Oh, oh the Red Sox manager is asking for a review after it was ruled on the field that Edwin didn't swing - manager loses and Edwin is safe on first, bases still loaded, nobody out and Michael is at the plate.

Joey comes into score after Michael singles out. Smoak up to bat with 2 out and he flies out leaving Josh on base but the Jays are ahead by 3 going into the 4th.

HBP scores 1.
DP scores another.

? Translation please. :smile:

Bogaerts homers top of the 4th and the Sox are on the board nobody out.

Ortiz doubles to deep in the left corner and he's on 2nd.

Stroman walks the next batter and the Sox have two on base still nobody out.

Jays get big double-play as Travis catches fly ball and tosses it to 2nd to catch Ortiz off base. Donaldson grabs a fly ball to end the inning and Stroman gets out with no more damage.

3 - 1 Jays

Bottom of the 4th, Russel strikes out.

Missed the last batter but he was the second out then Darwin came to the plate and hit a beaut of a triple.

Pillar strikes out stranding Darwin on 3rd.

Took the dog out and came back to find the score tied, 1 out and 2 on base.

Ortiz - 'one of the smartest hitters in baseball' according Buck gets hit by the pitch but not until he'd already on swung the bat on a 2-stirke count and is called out.

Stroman falls behind on the count 3 - 2 with 2 out. Rameriz is called out on second after hitting a double but not until the Sox bring two more home and the score is 5 - 3 for the Sox.

Joey flies out.

Josh gets a single.

Sox get a double play off Edwin's hit and the inning is over. Buck's partner mentioned that he was glad the Jay's are batting last - I am too.

HBP = Hit By Pitch
DP = Double Play

I guess you have never looked at the bottom of a box score or scored a game. Those are common abbreviations (why is that word so long?).

Even with my glasses on I have a hard time with those small score boxes, IRBS. Nor have I scored a game..............so please, could you add to my baseball knowledge by telling me what they mean. :smile:

Well I can see why the Red Sox lead in the East. The score is 7 - 3 top of the 6th and this is not Stroman's greatest outing. Then the ball bounces off Josh's glove, it gets away and the batter is safe on first. Russel drops the ball and the Sox advance a base.

Talk about unraveling.............all this with nobody out.

Marcus finally gets a strike out. Gibbons goes to the mound - Stroman is out, Chavez is in. Josh is tagged with his 4th error of the season on that last miss.

The Jays get the next two batters and the inning is over but a lot of damage was done.

I haven't read one in a paper in years. I get them from MLB.com | The Official Site of Major League Baseball Every box score, every game. Also gameday for live games showing you the game pitch by pitch if you don't have access to it on TV.

When scoring a game (an activity requiring you to pay attention to every at bat religiously) you are accounting for every play from every batter. You usually have a little box to accommodate this so shorthand is required. Every play is abbreviated. Below are some that are most common.

1B = single
2B = double
3B = triple
HR = home run
LOB = left on base
DP = double play
TP = triple play
FO = force out
BB = walk
IBB = intentional walk
FC = fielders choice

You can also record outs by F, P, L along with the numerical equivalent of player involved. Players are numbered 1-9: P, C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, LF, CF, RF. So a flyball out to right fielder is F9. A double play SS --> 2B --> 1B is 6-4-3 double play (I know TV announcers have used this as well).

And E is error. E5 in last inning for example.

Bottom of the 8th and the Jays have batted back to come within sight of the tieing run. Joey comes to bat and brings a runner home and is safe on first. Josh comes to the plate. Takes 2 strikes, a ball, fouls the next pitch, gets another ball, then pops up a fly to end the inning but not before the Jays tie the game 8 - 8.

We are off to the 9th, and that prior thought about the Jays batting last is at the top of my mind right now. If they can just hold the Sox from scoring anymore runs - tough job, these guys are really good.

Floyd on the mound.

I should start investing in companies that make baseball bats - they must be raking in a fortune.

Ortiz hits a home run with 1 out.

Floyd gets the next batters out and the Jays need 1 to force an extra inning and 2 to win the game in the 9th.

ROCK FRICKIN' ON RUSSEL MARTIN...........and the game is tied.

Russel takes 3rd after the catcher loses the ball, Travis down by 2 and all hell breaks lose as Travis singles, Martin comes home and a wild pitch to first leaves Travis safe on base....and the Jays have taken the first two games against the Sox. What a hell of a great comeback by the Jays. I am impressed.

I understand that there is a movement to resurect the EXPOS. I hope that happens, we can steal the game, they know that, it's the only reason the Expos were scurrbed. Even the Japs can beat them,. thier World Champion bullshjt respects no bounds, sooner the better, when the game is ours things will be better, the humble club fits the Canadiajn hands, even the Cubans are better, these imposters believe they invented basket ball as well, down with them

They weren't expected to well against the Yankees. They weren't expected to do well against the division leaders either. So far they appear to be surpassing expectations.

We will also see if Dickey can beat Price today. Price has a good record but is being propped up by a good offense. His ERA is over 6 this year.
