Justin Bieber has infuriated Prince fans with a comment about the late musician on social media.
Prince, full name Prince Rogers Nelson, was found unresponsive at his home in Minnesota on Thursday. His cause of death had yet to be determined.
Fans of the Purple Rain musician deluged Twitter and Instagram with tributes to their idol, with many focusing on the multi-instrumentalist's talents as a live act.
However, Bieber enraged Prince fans by disagreeing to a post made by singer/songwriter Andrew Watt on Instagram which paid tribute to the star by describing him as, "the last of the greatest living performers".
"Well not the last greatest living performer," the Sorry singer wrote in a response which has since been deleted.
The comment resulted in a flood of objections from fans, with those who had lost their musical idol describing the comments as showing disrespect to the deceased star.
"Can't believe some little wanna be child would disrespect someone as amazing as prince!" an Instagram user by the name of crazy--zef--betch420 wrote.
While another, with the handle magpielee added, "I'm content to say that Prince has more talent in his little toe nail than justinbeiber will ever have."
In the wake of the musician's death, hundreds of stars around the world paid tribute to including Mariah Carey, Rolling Stones star Ronnie Wood, the actor Samuel L. Jackson and pop star Justin Timberlake.
Bieber himself was yet to comment on the row. A rep for Bieber told Gossip Cop that the alleged screenshot was "fabricated."
U.S. authorities have launched an investigation into Prince's death, with a post-mortem due to be carried out on Friday.

Although i liked some of his music, it struck me that he was very representative of the effeminate personna rock took in the 1980s. In acts like Prince, Bowie, Duran Duran.. and glitter and hair bands with their mascara and spandex. They were the major key of rock through the 80s and early 90s. They were was not necessarily homosexual in character but just ambiguous in gender identity.
There was a definitively masculine reaction to this in retro bands like Guns and Roses, Lenny Kravitz, Black Crowes and the grunge bands. But they were definitely the minor key during that period.
As far as i can tell things have even further splintered now, with indie bands forging independent paths. As far a i can tell no band or act formed in the last 20 years has the profile to fill an arena, much less a stadium. You have to go to 60s bands in their final retirement tours like the Stones of Grateful Dead to fill a stadium these days.

Taylor Swift, Adele, Foo Fighters and Bieber do it regularly. I dont care for any of them but the ticket sales dont lie.
They can arguably fill arenas not stadiums (15,000 vs 75,000). Certainly Taylor Swift and Bieber are industry products.. built, packaged, promoted by the music business along very predictable and conventional formulas and aimed at a pubescent audience. They flame out when the public move on (or grows up) after a few years.. do you remember Hanna Montana.
G.K. Chesterton, a Catholic intellectual from the beginning of the 20th C. noted that those who choose to believe in nothing, end up believing in anything. This is a completely inauthentic freedom.. based on moral relativism, radical individualism and sensual gratification.
Real freedom is based on moral absolutes, reflecting the real structure of the universe... all else leads to tyranny.. and enslavement to ideological idols. That will replace true compassion with a saccharine sentiment and an affirmation of self destructive behaviour and delusion as some type 'right' if not 'obligation'.
I haven't heard anything about this in the mainstream media.. although i have heard suspicions of prescription drug abuse, and perhaps overdose. The AIDs thing seems likely to be the gossip and slander the National Enquirer indulges.
