Feel free to move thread if there is a more appropriate venue.

So that's the question really? Anyone heard of this? After 12 years in the Artillery, 18 years driving a transport I suffer from the worse kind of tinnitus and nothing seems to work. My hearing aids don't work, background noise like a fan offers moderate relief, but at times it can be absolutely maddening.

I am in a job that requires the transport of dangerous goods, so I am apprehensive about experimentation because I can be randomly tested. Something tells me it may be an effective treatment, but I don't know if tinnitus qualifies for medical marijuana treatment.

Thoughts?

It's bunk. I smoke pot for medicinal reasons. I also have tinnitus and the weed don't work. I know what you mean about it being maddening though. I sleep with a fan on 12 months a year to try and block the noise. Most people have no idea just how loud total silence is when you have tinnitus.

I doubt they will allow you to smoke pot and drive a fuel truck. I doubt I would use a fan as a distracting noise but you might try some music down so low all it does is eliminate the whine. That would work in other places with ear bids turned just a tad higher than the tinnitus. Pot would allow your mind to get distracted easier but if it had a hope of curing it I wouldn't have a trace of it as would others..
Being almost deaf now I can attest it is the noisiest silence I have ever heard, if you have to hear noise you might as well control the dial on what noise it is. If you can loop the song so much the better as it fades into the background after a certain number of days.

I wonder if playing something at a different frequency would help with partial deafness where only a select frequency is affected. I can understand a woman's voice at lower levels than I can a man's voice as it is in the bass area my haring deficit is in. Do I need a t-shirt that promotes shrill voices if you want immediate attention?

I would find a fan to be like that lone mosquito. If that works for you then would it also work if you recorded it and played it at the appropriate level while in a room that has no fan. You might even be able to experiment with the sound and minor changes might bring big changes in how effective one particular frequency is.
Being partially deaf also means for me all sound seems like it is coming from the same direction, straight above me, that is way worse than a hum that doesn't follow a tune.

What have you been Rxed in the past? GABA? antiinflammatories? Etc

Best bet? Go with CBD in capsules. If they don't work, your questions will be answered.

Keep in mind that even with an Rx for cannabinoids, you can't drive until 3 hrs after ingesting.

If you want to know how and where to obtain CBD, PM me. I'll put you on a path that won't group you in with stoners.

Fan doesn't work. Hearing aid doesn't work. I've never thought of cannabis as a treatment, but it might be worth a try. I would not use it while working or even during on duty service. My consideration is for my time off when it becomes almost impossible to sleep.

My tinnitus seems to blow up even when I am doing something. Last night, I was watching a movie with the Missus and it became distracting to the point of losing focus. I doubt tinnitus qualifies for medical marijuana treatment, but I am considering it as an option.

That has to be a b*tch. I can't sleep at night because of sciatica in my right leg. but am hoping the doc can solve that. can't imagine having a buzzing in my ear constantly. My brother in law says it's always there and the doc says can't do anything about it.

Well, that's not entirely true. There are devices similar to a hearing aid they can use that emits the same frequency/tone as the ringing in one's ears to cancel it out, but from what I understand they're rather expensive and not covered by most medical plans.

I could be wrong, but I do believe being "grouped in with stoners" would roll off RCS like ducks off a wetback.
Mexicans have ducks on their backs?

Relax folks, it's just a joke.

Actually, some years ago I saw Latino comedian (don't recall his name offhand) who was "lamenting" the number of Canadians going to the US taking jobs away from Mexicans and then called us "damn snowbacks".

Go get a bag of green tobacco and smoke some, several people have suggested pot won't help eliminate tinnitus but go for it, it won't take long before you will have your answer. When I worked in any part of the patch and sleep-overs were involved I used to try and sleep close to the gen set, just so if it quit I would be woken up and could go and find out why it quit. After doing that for a few months I would make a recording of it and play it at home as without that sound I would wake up because it was too quiet. If you slept in your truck, doh, at all you could have a tape to listen to help with that transition.

As for the movie you were getting bored and restless as the ringing only start in times when you are not involved in something else that occupies your time. Let.s go with the movie being boring and you would rather be paying attention to your wife, rather than it being the other way around.

RCS my friend, I too suffer from tinnitus in my left ear, I have gone to several audiologists hoping one of them has the magic bullet, but for the moment no cure exists. The American Tinnitus Association highly recommends multiple approaches so you can live a more normal life free of this incessant noise. Don't immediately dismiss what I am telling you, you have to address this as if it were a disease (even though it is not). For now we can manage the condition, The ATA has a wealth of information that can you help you as each persons condition is almost unique. It has helped me live a better life. Please read it;
