The idea of having a military is to protect and defend against invaders/aggressors. Members of the military join knowing that they will probably have to fight at some point to do that. They train for it. Like people in any other career they want to do what they are trained to do.
So it makes no sense to worry about 'keeping them safe from harm'.
If keeping our military out of harms way is a priority then we might as well not have a military. That may just be what the Liberals want.
