Good for you however, this isn't about you. It's about future generations. You do understand the concept of the education system don't you?
The concept of education that I understand is teaching children to THINK. THINK for themselves. That is a concept that has fallen by the wayside and does the children a disservice and puts them at a disadvantage.
I couldn't disagree more. My two youngest just graduated this past June. They, as well as their classmates, definitely do a better job of thinking than your generation which has been shown to be seriously lacking. This thread is ample evidence.
Yes, we get you don't like Trudeau. My kids don't either but they can come up with a coherent argument for their reasons not to like him. That's a pretty silly statement. You don't even know what my generation is.
Exactly what are your two youngest thinking about that is so great? I hope they're better at thinking than our PM who seems to think the only thing worth thinking about is how to pose for a camera.
Agreed. If you can read, write, and cipher (only one of which begins with "R," by the way) you can learn anything else you need or want to know.

I loved cypherin'. I really love the gazintas.
I still have a slide rule!
.... somewhere ....
I too used one for many years! One of the bi products of logarithms!![]()
My father was a superb mathematician and a superb air navigator who ended up flying complex search patterns over open ocean, 18 hours at a time, using sun and star shots, only.
Yep, back in the day people were much more talented than the kids today! Their brains are fried with too much dope.
Nonsense. Each generation is smarter than the one before. Sour grapes prevents some people from accepting that reality.
I don't buy that for a second. You should check out an archives and read some of the personal correspondence written by ordinary people 120 years ago. Not only is their handwriting superb, their prose is excellent, as well. Most 21st century dingbats are hard pressed to grunt out an expression like "owned" or "lol". Our culture has become so severely dumbed down that we don't have the faculties to be aware of the loss, anymore.

I don't understand YOUR concept of the education system! Because it makes no sense.
There's more to education than learning how to click your mouse to find out what you want to know/want to do which may or may not be accurate.

Abd we get nothing for our consistancyDon't sweat it C.C.- intelligent people know the facts, while there will always be idiots to blurt out mindless drivel!![]()
I'm sure you don't
Your confusion is understandable. It's interesting to see some people see language skills as the measuring stick for intelligence, while others see math skills. Both are equally misinformed.

All well and good but you are depending on a computer to be right because without some basic math skills you would not know if there is a problem or how to solve it if by some chance you did find it.
Basic math is so important that in most trades they have a math class in apprenticeship training. Far more important than knowing who ruled the muddle east 5000 years ago or memorizing british poetry from 250 years ago.
You are right about the education system requiring change. It MUST focus on what students require to make it in the world, not what is best for the unionized teachers.
