Carter Banned Iranians from Coming to US During Hostage Crisis | Frontpage Mag

Fourth, the Secretary of Treasury [State] and the Attorney General will invalidate all visas issued to Iranian citizens for future entry into the United States, effective today. We will not reissue visas, nor will we issue new visas, except for compelling and proven humanitarian reasons or where the national interest of our own country requires. This directive will be interpreted very strictly. ~ Pres. Jimmy Carter Democrat

And he was wrong. He punished Iranians for the actions of their government and other Iranians.

A civilized country does not engage in group punishment.

Great Find Eagle... LOL

But it's what I've been saying all along.. ban immigration from countries where terrorism is being exported from.. Iran, Iraq, Syria and so on.

As far as I know, individual Iranians aren't much into terrirism. The state is against its own citizens. What you say makes no sense.

I saw it earlier on Drudge but Walter posted it in another thread. I thought it was beneficial for the forum that it should get its own thread.

So... he was a racist? A bigot?
Embarrassed at losing control of Iran and all that cheap oil.

That would pretty much mean all Americans would never need a passport.

Who Carter or the blowhard?
This Carter?
How Jimmy Carter and I Started the Mujahideen

Q: The former director of the CIA, Robert Gates, stated in his memoirs [“From the Shadows”], that American intelligence services began to aid the Mujahadeen in Afghanistan 6 months before the Soviet intervention. In this period you were the national security adviser to President Carter. You therefore played a role in this affair. Is that correct?
Brzezinski: Yes. According to the official version of history, CIA aid to the Mujahadeen began during 1980, that is to say, after the Soviet army invaded Afghanistan, 24 Dec 1979. But the reality, secretly guarded until now, is completely otherwise: Indeed, it was July 3, 1979 that President Carter signed the first directive for secret aid to the opponents of the pro-Soviet regime in Kabul. And that very day, I wrote a note to the president in which I explained to him that in my opinion this aid was going to induce a Soviet military intervention.

Carter followed through and DID ban Iranians from the US and in addition he deported the ones that were here.

Carter orders 50,000 Iranian students in US to report to immigration office with view to deporting those in violation of their visas. On 27 December 1979, US appeals court allows deportation of Iranian students found in violation.

I guess if you don't count Hezbollah you would be somewhat correct.

And he followed through.

Hezbollah believes itself to be Shi'a, but I thought it was a Lebanese organization funded by the Iranian government, not individual Iranians. So again, Iranians are not involved in any individual capacity. Punishing the government is one thing. Punishing the people is another.

...and if the blowhard was boss he could do the same thing. All he's doing now is adding fuel to a fire that even his hot air can't extinguish

Well he is Donald Trump... that is what he does.

Hezbollah believes itself to be Shi'a, but I thought it was a Lebanese organization funded by the Iranian government,

You're correct.

not individual Iranians. So again, Iranians are not involved in any individual capacity.

The Government is made up of Iranians so IDK what else to say. Perhaps they can replace The Revolutionary Council next elections?

Punishing the government is one thing. Punishing the people is another.

I wasn't talking about punishing anyone here.

So if somebody is illegally in your country, they CAN be deported?

So, you're comparing what Carter did to what Trump is "proposing"? Really? I can see the likes of Walter and boomer doing that, but I was SURE you were smarter than that.
