In Vernon? Kelowna is high but I never expected things to be that high there. I guess it's changed a lot since we left there in 2002.

Well, I paid $312 grand for it in '09 and it hasn't gone up or down very much since & I've done a fair amount of work on it. The house is about 45 years old now.

Doesn't surprise me with those kind of wages. I guess your material prices are to the moon as well considering your overloaded labor costs.

In comparison to everything else I don't think so as far as material prices are concerned. When I was a kid dimensional lumber was around $200 a thousand board ft and not a heck of a lot more now. To get the true picture you'd have to talk to a builder, but I'm sure a lot of it has to do with codes and red tape.

It would have to. And probably a substantial mark up for each step involved. Sounds to me you fellers are paying for voracious appetites. Here's the thing. If I build a set of cabinets for a new home and charge 25K as an example. The cost of the cabinets is 25K. But not to the buyer, to the contractor. Sounds like your contractors would probably charge the buyer twice that much, even though he only payed half what he is charging. We have that mark up thing here too. No check on appetites just like America.

Not much of anything in housing right now and there has not been for at least 3 years. We know only too well. Built a spec in L.S. and we did sell it but it took so much longer than we expected. It's a really nice home but we made an instant decision to never build a spec again. Didn't you used to work for the Fire Dept? It's probably volunteers there, right?

Where is L.S. VanIsle?

Had no idea anything was going on in CR. sounds very busy. Not too far for you to travel but still far enough. Is it raining super hard at your place? We're getting Tofino/Ucluelet weather here. Water is over flowing the eavestroughs so bad we can't step out without an umbrella! 🌧☔️

LOts going on right now. New hospitals in both CR and Courtenay. I am working on the new Jon Hart Generating Station. All being built underground.Good for a couple of years anyway.

Got to wondering later if it might be Ladysmith! (A weird way to abbreviate it) :)

Could be.Never heard it called that before. But then people in Pt Alberni tend to call the place Port, like it is the only one on the coast. But then many of them don't cross the hump much.

Yeah and Prince George is often referred to as "Prince"!
