I always thought the Canadian forces were very good, back when I served with them. I'm very sorry to hear they've deteriorated to the point where setting up a refugee camp seriously degrades their readiness.

Whom did you serve with, TB (before some troll comes along to call you a liar)?

What are you worried about? Ever spent a winter in a drafty snorefest? By spring, they'll be begging to go home

I was married to an airman stationed at CFB Moose Jaw when it was an Air Base, not a CFB.
The military base, as I found it, is home to the military personnel. It is like a community unto itself, very tight knit.
Housing large numbers of refugees there is like asking a family to move into one room of their home so that strangers can occupy the rest of their house.
Maybe things have changed, I don't know. But back in the day, the bases had their own social events too. I wonder how the refugees will react to the dances held on the base and the modern rock music. If the refugees are Muslim, how will the react to the alcohol served on base and the Canadian cuisine in the mess hall? Will they demand the removal of any pork products and alcoholic drinks?
Will the refugees occupy the PMQ, do their own laundry and cook their own meals, each family separately? How will they obtain their supplies? Will they need transportation and language translation provided by the military? Will some of the refugees be from countries where the soldiers have been deployed and perhaps have negative impressions of the former citizens of those countries?
Lots of question. Lots of potential problems. One can only hope these possibilities have been recognized in advance.

RCAF ... before 1970 or in the last year

If it were before 1970, he/she would remember the Kennedy assassination a bit more vividly. If it is later, he/she would be constrained by some successor to the Official Secrets Act and it would not be fair to ask him/her more, n'est-ce pas?

This is a Government that does not think through the consequences of its actions. Instead of formulating a plan, they are going at this like a bunch of idiots. We should not be evicting soldiers from Barracks. Typical Cannuck response.

They aren't being evicted. Stop being a silly drama queen. You're starting to sound like Boomer.

Methinks a relocation from barracks to dormitory would be an upgrade - if the pics on CTV news were accurate

I think it's revolting the govt will do this for extra refugees but not for our homeless veterans. How progressive of us.

Might could look into a different government. Conservatives ain't done dick for the vets, Liberals don't look like they mean to.

Have you considered Bloc Quebecois?
