Northern Ontario,
Seems like the leftoids at the voting stations here want to take a page from the Dumbocrats in the states...
Something, I don't think would work in my neck of the woods...
Because not too long ago one scrutineer at the voting table here in town insisted I show a piece of identification even though I went to school with her for years but she said it was just because the other person at the table didn't know me!

This is Canada! In Canada we do not cover our faces. If this is a religious requirement, how far does religious freedom go?
I do not like to meet up with a person who will not show me her face. It makes me uncomfortable. It makes me think of hoodlums and terrorists.
If Canadian citizenship is not worth uncovering her face for a few minutes, then Canada is not that important to her. Perhaps she should live elsewhere.

It appears to me that Harper's logic is that we must prohibit women from doing anything that we do not require them to do. In other words, he must prohibit his daughter from doing anything he does not require her to do, choice not being an option.

I will never tell my daughter that a woman must eat meat. That's not my Canada.

The question then is, must it necessarily follow from this that we should prohibit women from consuming meat? It would seem so according to Harper's logic unless he believes that we should force women to eat meat, choice again not being an option.

Harper is only asking that women reveal their identity visually when taking the Citizenship oath and when serving the public in a governmental capacity. That shouldn't be too much to ask.
Canadians do not cover their faces. Are we expected to abandon all of our traditions to accommodate the wacky religious beliefs of newbies ? The niquab is offensive to the majority of Canadians so it should be banned.
In an open society there is nothing open about covering one's face. !

Would that apply to everything that is "offensive to the majority of Canadians?"

See the picture above.

What is "open" about a society that goes around banning things because they're "offensive to a majority?"

(I ain't even gonna get started on they hypocrisy of standing on Indian land talking about the locals being required to abandon their traditions to accommodate the wacky religious beliefs of newbies.)

Definition of 'Democracy': Rule by majority

That aside, how well do you think a Canadian woman would be received in a Mid-eastern country if she strolled about in short shorts and a bikini top? She would be a damned fool to do it! When you're in Canada, do what Canadians do!
These women with their 'Halloween masks' on year around will be the first to complain about discrimination. Well when you don't make the adjustments necessary to fit in with the accepted way of life you can expect people are going to treat you differently. If you don't want to be treated differently, then don't flaunt your difference.

So, you don't see any value in assuring the rights of the individual, even when they go against the majority?

That aside, how well do you think a Canadian woman would be received in a Mid-eastern country if she strolled about in short shorts and a bikini top?
You think Canada is superior to those countries, and now you're holding their standards up as the example to follow?

When you're in Canada, do what Canadians do!
I've asked this question several times, and I can't ever get a straight answer. Exactly what is it "Canadians do?"

Wow, you woulda made one heck of a teacher at one of the residential schools back in the day.

What horse ****. Harper, obviously, knows nothing about the situation.!

I predict that, once again, I'm not going to get an answer to my question. What do "Canadians do?" What are "Canadian values?"

However, on the theory that everyone should do what the majority of Canadians do, I advocate banning all languages other than English, all religions other than Protestantism, all political parties other than the Conservatives, and all hairstyles except the crew cut and the bob. It goes without saying, of course, that beards, moustaches, and coloring hair must be forbidden, because they can obscure a person's identity.
