I was just watching Amanda Lang on CBC news and her guest Ian Lee (smart economist?) says Pension age in Canada is going to have to be postponed until age 70 to remain sustainable. He says in a very few years 25% of the population will be over 65.

Why people paid into the pension fund for a promised return it is not the fault
of pensioners that Harper and others over the years took money out to pay the
countries bills it is time to pay up.

That guy is an idiot and they always set him up against that union chick who just laughs while she dismantles his talking points.

Also Amanda Lang is super hot.

$248Billion in one year isn't chump change.

I thought maybe for you Pete it is. :) :)

Probably, she's definitely no dummy! ("Anybody care to meet a sweet old fashioned girl"?)

I hadn't heard that............which bills were paid? and how much?

I did hear at one time (possibly a myth) that C.P.P. funds were being syphoned off by W.C.B. to pay disability. I'm not sure exactly how or if Harper was connected to that.

EI was raided under Chretien and Martin but never CPP by either ruling party.

I stand corrected Pete, my memory is good but it's short. :) Martin was a slick old bastard taking credit for eliminating the debt. Actually he just spread it around so it looked a little thinner.

Never heard of this bean counter before but he may very well be right. Currently there is a fair amount of cash in the cookie drawer but There will soon be a massive influx of entitled baby boomers that will be digging in for all they are worth. They are also living longer than previous generations. Add to that a declining number of contributors and people that are in their twenties now might be left short bu the time their turn comes along.

We've been hearing the same thing or similar since the 70's. When I graduated, the talk was that the CPP fund would be bankrupt well before I could collect.

Ian Lee? I've seen him quite a lot lately on the C.B.C. news channel. He often appears with Amanda Lang between 4 & 5 P.M. on weekdays. I think he knows his onions.
