Tariffs ain't no good or nobody anytime anywhere. Free trade has improved the world's economy exponentially and raised over 1 billion out of poverty in the last 30 years.

Free trade has put more people into criminally unfavorable working conditions than ever before.

Amazing!

The idea that Canadian economic stagnation is Harpers fault is simplistic beyond belief.

Another thing that boggles the mind is that some are still moaning about NAFTA which did more to create prosperity in Canada than anything else.

I guess the buggy whip Union and top hat makers guild need to get real.

The new TP deal will help but Canada is having trouble with small domestic groups (marketing boards) who want to keep their monopoly.

Maybe we can blame it on Mike Harris?

It's hard to find anything that's manufactured in Canada anymore.
the Harpo fanatics will make any excuse to justify this destruction of Canada and its people.
And continually try to push what great financial managers they are.

When Canada's major snowmobile and ATV manufacturer makes their products in Mexico simply because they can pay their people $20 a day with no benefits something seriously has gone wrong.

Is Stansfield underwear still made in Canada???
probably by a 10-year-old child in Indonesia

There is no Free Trade / NAFTA it was a scam..

When you bring items into Canada, do you pay duties still?? YES.

NAFTA only benefits the rich mega corporations.

You pay the same whether wholesale or retail. Where something was manufactured is where NAFTA is . Goods made in Canada or America have no duties, goods imported from China do have tarriffs and duties depending on the NAFTA classification code. If a container lands in a Canadian POE tarrifs and duties drop to bupkis because we have a sweeter free trade deal with China it it goes to a US port then to Canada you pay US tariffs and duties too.

When dumping or protectionism is going on you'll see tarrifs like 20% on Chinese stainless steel and 134% on solar panels that is being lobbied for by lefties.

I import on a regular basis. Duties are cheap if any and even evil corp llc pays GST and PST and brokering just like you or me.

Under the deal, Mexico has gone from a bit player in the North American auto sector to the second-largest participant with almost 20 per cent of total production, compared with Canada's 16 per cent.

"Heavy truck shipments in Canada collapsed by 75 per cent between 2006 and 2011. It's an incredible example of a manufacturing catastrophe and NAFTA was absolutely a key part of it," he says.

Better question, you noticed that truck was not made in Canada why did you buy it.

It's funny how so many people don't want Canada to join the USA, however have no issue with buying US, and providing jobs to Americans over Canadians.
