I wouldn't call European societies humanist by any means and not standing up for freedom of speech seems anti-humanist, so the examples given in this article don't actually support its position.

Well, considering the Irish spent the last 500 years or so with the Church of England boot on their necks and their tongues on the Catholic Church's boots, they're downright humanist in the last 20 years or so.

But that was really an economic thing more then religious .
