What did you find at the river, dear brother Spade?

This song has been looping in my mind all day. I was inspired to research its origins and meaning. I was edified and encouraged by what I found. I will not look at a river or a starry sky in the same way ever again.

Thanks for posting, Spade : )

"If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler." (1 Peter 4:14-15 NIV)

How is gossip/criticism like murder?
Both need repenting.
I'm not sure why you are posting a reference to the time of the 7 trumps as being a reflection of what we supposed to do theses days which is before any trumps sound. The rules for that is in the 2nd reference below.

1Pe:4:12-13:
Beloved,
think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you,
as though some strange thing happened unto you:
But rejoice,
inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings;
that,
when his glory shall be revealed,
ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

1Pe:4:17-18:
For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God:
and if it first begin at us,
what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?
And if the righteous scarcely be saved,
where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

Ro:13:7-9:
Render therefore to all their dues:
tribute to whom tribute is due;
custom to whom custom;
fear to whom fear;
honour to whom honour.
Owe no man any thing,
but to love one another:
for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
For this,
Thou shalt not commit adultery,
Thou shalt not kill,
Thou shalt not steal,
Thou shalt not bear false witness,
Thou shalt not covet;
and if there be any other commandment,
it is briefly comprehended in this saying,
namely,
Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Ever-unfolding Sacred Journey
Beloved, come closer to me….. Let us lose ourselves in the ever-growing desires of our flesh as lovers often do. Let us gaze into one another’s eyes from the light of our awakened souls. We will venture deep within our beings and recall the mother tongue of our flesh; the profound language of our sacred forms, and we will revel in our hearts to find the sacred land our fears forbid us to walk. Now is the time to live full out from every aspect of our being, knowing this bliss is but a glimpse of what’s to come as --every day more and more-- we inhabit again our own bodies, minds and souls. We live not by man’s rigid, life-depleting laws, but by grace, as Source destined us to live.

Does the meaning change any when the definition of what it takes to be in sin has changed just as the punishment changed.

M't:5:28:
But I say unto you,
That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

Jas:2:8-11:
If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture,
Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself,
ye do well:
But if ye have respect to persons,
ye commit sin,
and are convinced of the law as transgressors.
For whosoever shall keep the whole law,
and yet offend in one point,
he is guilty of all.
For he that said,
Do not commit adultery,
said also,
Do not kill.
Now if thou commit no adultery,
yet if thou kill,
thou art become a transgressor of the law.

The same gospel was preached? When did that happen? There are four books
written by four people fighting for power of the church it was no longer about
Christ it was about power and is today for that matter.
There were about a dozen or two gospels and it got paired down to four as a
compromise but it was not a happy coming together politics never is.
When someone approaches me with they were all preaching the same I know
its a message other than the historical account.
It got into Jews and Gentiles and other things that nearly split the church.
In the end they didn't do what Christ wanted anyway. He didn't want a Christian
Church he wanted to reform the Jewish institutions. Christ considered himself
right to the end to be Jewish.

"Peter puts murder right down with gossiping and criticizing others; he makes no distinction between them at all. Paul did the same thing. Actually, Paul and Peter and James agree on everything. They are all preaching the same gospel that produces the same kind of life." (Thru the Bible, Vol. 5: 1 Corinthians-Revelation, Dr. J. Vernon McGee)

In theory there are no degrees of sin according to the New Testament. See James 2:10.

Sin is an interpretation of conscience for many and sin is what it is.
For those religious and live their lives in accordance with a book at
best two thousand years ago they are entitled to their belief but they
are not entitled to point out others as sinners because it is none of
their business who does what

Would you like the verse that says any Christian that says a sinner is not saved gets his position in the gathering taken away and the accursed person is given that same position? The 'rule' is you cannot share the same meals with them or you suffer the same fate as the sinner. In a family setting the 'faith' of one is salvation for a family that has 'willing sinners' in it.
Belief and faith do go hand in hand in that a believer will do certain things specific to how they act in society in general rather than goes about converting anybody. Convert somebody or condemn somebody verbally is not possible when you are told to skirt around them. Think of it as a 'mini-version' of this verse below and doctrine does demand you prove your point to the same degree it is written about in the whole book. You can probably preach a little as you share a meal with a poor person, maybe forget to take the book with you when you leave. The journey after that point is between the reader and God and the conditions of the 'change' and how believer and non believer share the same reality. Faith during the time of the 42 months in Re:11 is based on faith according to the 7 letters in Re:2&3. During that time faith is in the hands of the two witnesses and 7 angels that are the heads of the 7 Churches. The sinner side of the isle and the repented side of those Churches will cover all Gentiles during that period of time as each man has had the book pass close enough that it was or was not opened. If it was opened the 'proof by works' (rather than faith the book is true) would fit the De:4 promise of protection during something called the 'latter days'. 42 months after the first 'survey of the planet' the gathering takes place and in the space of a few hours the ones alive either make it through the 7 vials and that is a trial by fire in every sense of the word.

M't:10:11-16:
And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter,
enquire who in it is worthy;
and there abide till ye go thence.
And when ye come into an house,
salute it.
And if the house be worthy,
let your peace come upon it:
but if it be not worthy,
let your peace return to you.
And whosoever shall not receive you,
nor hear your words,
when ye depart out of that house or city,
shake off the dust of your feet.
Verily I say unto you,
It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment,
than for that city.
Behold,
I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves:
be ye therefore wise as serpents,
and harmless as doves.

Jas:2:15-17:
If a brother or sister be naked,
and destitute of daily food,
And one of you say unto them,
Depart in peace,
be ye warmed and filled;
notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body;
what doth it profit?
Even so faith,
if it hath not works,
is dead,
being alone.

Jas:2:26:
For as the body without the spirit is dead,
so faith without works is dead also.

Zec:13:8-9:
And it shall come to pass,
that in all the land,
saith the LORD,
two parts therein shall be cut off and die;
but the third shall be left therein.
And I will bring the third part through the fire,
and will refine them as silver is refined,
and will try them as gold is tried:
they shall call on my name,
and I will hear them:
I will say,
It is my people:
and they shall say,
The LORD is my God.

Zec:14:12:
And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem;
Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet,
and their eyes shall consume away in their holes,
and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.

Northern Ontario,
Hey there where ya goin', not exactly knowin', who says you have to call just one place home. He's goin' everywhere, B.J. McKay and his best friend Bear. He just keeps on movin', ladies keep improvin', every day is better than the last. New dreams and better scenes, and best of all I don't pay property tax. Rollin' down to Dallas, who's providin' my palace, off to New Orleans or who knows where. Places new and ladies, too, I'm B.J. McKay and this is my best friend Bear.

Mutley, you snickering, floppy eared hound. When courage is needed, you're never around. Those medals you wear on your moth-eaten chest should be there for bungling at which you are best. So, stop that pigeon, stop that pigeon, stop that pigeon, stop that pigeon, stop that pigeon, stop that pigeon, stop that pigeon. Howwww! Nab him, jab him, tab him, grab him, stop that pigeon now.

In theory there are no degrees of sin according to the New Testament. See James 2:10.

Old Testament, too:

"For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry." (1 Samuel 15:23 NIV)

See? I told you it was absurd.

An analogy is a way of stating a comparative relationship between two sets of terms. A and B (of the first set) are related to each other in the same way that C and D (of the second set) are related to each other. An analogy is often represented as follows: A : B :: C : D. http://www.sagepub.com/upm-data/11583_Nessel_Chapter_1.pdf

Really? You see any immortals roaming around the earth? The passages these verse come from point to that period of time being specifically for the people that are affected the most. When 2/3 of your group bite the dust then that is a 'note worthy event'. Since it is such an important event in prophecy it has enough markers that it cannot fit in with anything else.

Re:16:16-21:
And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.
And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air;
and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven,
from the throne,
saying,
It is done.
And there were voices,
and thunders,
and lightnings;
and there was a great earthquake,
such as was not since men were upon the earth,
so mighty an earthquake,
and so great.
And the great city was divided into three parts,
and the cities of the nations fell:
and great Babylon came in remembrance before God,
to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.
And every island fled away,
and the mountains were not found.
And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven,
every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail;
for the plague thereof was exceeding great.

Re:19:16-21:
And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written,
KING OF KINGS,
AND LORD OF LORDS.
And I saw an angel standing in the sun;
and he cried with a loud voice,
saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven,
Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God;
That ye may eat the flesh of kings,
and the flesh of captains,
and the flesh of mighty men,
and the flesh of horses,
and of them that sit on them,
and the flesh of all men,
both free and bond,
both small and great.
And I saw the beast,
and the kings of the earth,
and their armies,
gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse,
and against his army.
And the beast was taken,
and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him,
with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast,
and them that worshipped his image.
These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.
And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse,
which sword proceeded out of his mouth:
and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

Zec:13:8-9:
And it shall come to pass,
that in all the land,
saith the LORD,
two parts therein shall be cut off and die;
but the third shall be left therein.
And I will bring the third part through the fire,
and will refine them as silver is refined,
and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name,
and I will hear them:
I will say,
It is my people:
and they shall say,
The LORD is my God.

Isa:65:1-6:
I am sought of them that asked not for me;
I am found of them that sought me not:
I said,
Behold me,
behold me,
unto a nation that was not called by my name.
I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people,
which walketh in a way that was not good,
after their own thoughts;
A people that provoketh me to anger continually to my face;
that sacrificeth in gardens,
and burneth incense upon altars of brick;
Which remain among the graves,
and lodge in the monuments,
which eat swine's flesh,
and broth of abominable things is in their vessels;
Which say,
Stand by thyself,
come not near to me;
for I am holier than thou.
These are a smoke in my nose,
a fire that burneth all the day.
Behold,
it is written before me:
I will not keep silence,
but will recompense,
even recompense into their bosom,

Isa:65:12-15:
Therefore will I number you to the sword,
and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter:
because when I called,
ye did not answer;
when I spake,
ye did not hear;
but did evil before mine eyes,
and did choose that wherein I delighted not.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD,
Behold,
my servants shall eat,
but ye shall be hungry:
behold,
my servants shall drink,
but ye shall be thirsty:
behold,
my servants shall rejoice,
but ye shall be ashamed:
Behold,
my servants shall sing for joy of heart,
but ye shall cry for sorrow of heart,
and shall howl for vexation of spirit.
And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto my chosen:
for the Lord GOD shall slay thee,
and call his servants by another name:

1Th:4:11-18:
And that ye study to be quiet,
and to do your own business,
and to work with your own hands,
as we commanded you;
That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without,
and that ye may have lack of nothing.
But I would not have you to be ignorant,
brethren,
concerning them which are asleep,
that ye sorrow not,
even as others which have no hope.
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again,
even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord,
that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout,
with the voice of the archangel,
and with the trump of God:
and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds,
to meet the Lord in the air:
and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Jer:25:28-33:
And it shall be,
if they refuse to take the cup at thine hand to drink,
then shalt thou say unto them,
Thus saith the LORD of hosts;
Ye shall certainly drink.
For,
lo,
I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by my name,
and should ye be utterly unpunished?
Ye shall not be unpunished:
for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth,
saith the LORD of hosts.
Therefore prophesy thou against them all these words,
and say unto them,
The LORD shall roar from on high,
and utter his voice from his holy habitation;
he shall mightily roar upon his habitation;
he shall give a shout,
as they that tread the grapes,
against all the inhabitants of the earth.
A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth;
for the LORD hath a controversy with the nations,
he will plead with all flesh;
he will give them that are wicked to the sword,
saith the LORD.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts,
Behold,
evil shall go forth from nation to nation,
and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.
And the slain of the LORD shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth:
they shall not be lamented,
neither gathered,
nor buried;
they shall be dung upon the ground.

Am:5:18:
Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD!
to what end is it for you?
the day of the LORD is darkness,
and not light.

Da:2:40-44:
And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron:
forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things:
and as iron that breaketh all these,
shall it break in pieces and bruise.
And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes,
part of potters' clay,
and part of iron,
the kingdom shall be divided;
but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron,
forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.
And as the toes of the feet were part of iron,
and part of clay,
so the kingdom shall be partly strong,
and partly broken.
And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay,
they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men:

but they shall not cleave one to another,
even as iron is not mixed with clay.
And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom,
which shall never be destroyed:
and the kingdom shall not be left to other people,
but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms,
and it shall stand for ever.

Jude:1:6-8:
And the angels which kept not their first estate,
but left their own habitation,
he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.
Even as Sodom and Gomorrha,
and the cities about them in like manner,
giving themselves over to fornication,
and going after strange flesh,
are set forth for an example,
suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh,
despise dominion,
and speak evil of dignities.

Jude:1:12:
These are spots in your feasts of charity,
when they feast with you,
feeding themselves without fear:
clouds they are without water,
carried about of winds;
trees whose fruit withereth,
without fruit,
twice dead,
plucked up by the roots;

Jude:1:16-19:
These are murmurers,
complainers,
walking after their own lusts;
and their mouth speaketh great swelling words,
having men's persons in admiration because of advantage.
But,
beloved,
remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;
How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time,
who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.
These be they who separate themselves,
sensual,
having not the Spirit.

Da:7:23-27:
Thus he said,
The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth,
which shall be diverse from all kingdoms,
and shall devour the whole earth,
and shall tread it down,
and break it in pieces.
And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise:
and another shall rise after them;
and he shall be diverse from the first,
and he shall subdue three kings.
And he shall speak great words against the most High,
and shall wear out the saints of the most High,
and think to change times and laws:
and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.
But the judgment shall sit,
and they shall take away his dominion,
to consume and to destroy it unto the end.
And the kingdom and dominion,
and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven,
shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High,
whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and all dominions shall serve and obey him.

TBC for everybody nor asleep.

Northern Ontario,
This makes as much sense as megahurts' rambling bible quotes......

Almighty bless her, and in the father unto the Jordan, that he said, My punishment is thy people, and begat Mahalalel were ringstreaked shall not with child: and, behold, it came to the lintel, upon her son. And they came to Mesopotamia, unto Abram his father. And he brought of Joseph, And God of ships; And they drew for thee on their city, and stood up and he led Israel from our sacks carry down in ward in the children of Israel, and embraced him, and his loins, and pursued as one day? And the Egyptians oppress them.

Thus Jehovah
Like Nimrod a handmaid. And the first month, on my fathers in not be for Pharaoh; and Joseph commanded to wife. And the face no plague be with my people of great nation. But thou shalt take of Egypt died; and in the man or not. Then Jehovah heareth your hosts of Abraham, the almond and lay with their young, and ten. After these are the bow down with God: lo, shall dwell with the land whereon thou hast circumcised the land of my father's servants shall be, when Joseph's name Dan. And he had been keepers of the Chaldees,
was; in Egypt: and I require; At even, ye therein, I will get thee of the third day Abraham set up the damsel to bear the slain, and when she had peeled white in Jacob's thigh in the father loveth him. And Moses and the dust and he lifted up unto her mouth. And he had spoken. Haste thee, and spake unto Pharaoh: lo, three days; and let Israel out thy servants said to her neighbor, and said unto Shur that it in the goods, and unto them, into his sons and the field and said to pass, when Joseph

And the land of Esau: the children of God, knowing good for wounding me, surely die: but there all that they digged another well. Now these are the Pillar of Adah, and new wine. Let me lord of thy brethren could declare
weight: and to the sons of God saw a daughter, and said, Wherefore then all that remained fled from the people, that were in thy hand over the wonders which I served thee, thy seed would not so did the abomination unto us? We are the city of good for I have ye shall be done. And the time that thou shalt thou come down over his brethren. And Israel are these are the children of thy border: and Phicol the fruit of Israel dwelt in the house is the face of all the sons and entered Noah, and her
blind? Is not be grown up, and Isaac, she called his foreskin, that thy seed shall my lord. And his bow in this day. And Jacob either good way before me to the name was returned to wife. Now these are the lad, and kill it unto Gerar. And unto him, Jehovah, like unto him, Because there hath met him. Now Moses and the ground. And Joseph commanded them: the river's brink. And I will exalt him. And she had commanded Moses said unto Laban, Send one another's speech. And it came in the right way of Tubal-cain was very
latter days. Assemble yourselves, and all the cloud, and Jehovah commanded them, saying, Every moving thing which I did eat. And it came in Egypt, and spotted, and Letushim, and his clothes. And Jehovah spake roughly with him that I came with thee. Now this day, saying, Bring them, and upon the wives of thine office: and a one of God, knowing good and his brethren with water, but when thou liest, to pass on: forasmuch as for their herds, and the words of the flood of his servants. And he lifted up? and worshipped Jehovah.

Therefore his chariots, and
triumphed gloriously; The keeper of it came to his hand, because he commanded Moses said, Behold, when he set him in unto Abraham, the priests bought the field to wife coats of life. And he died. And Abraham gave three days was fair to sleep. And Sarah conceived, and female, to them, and fire and the fruit after their taskmasters; for the west, and her veil from the fountain of swarms of the people of [these] mighty thunderings and get you straw and seven other money in a bondman to your hand; peradventure there they said,

Really? You see any immortals roaming around the earth?

Absolutely, MHz. Everyday.

"The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit." (John 3:8 NIV)

Who Has Seen the Wind?

Who has seen the wind?
Neither I nor you.
But when the leaves hang trembling,
The wind is passing through.
Who has seen the wind?
Neither you nor I.
But when the trees bow down their heads,
The wind is passing by.
(Christina Rossetti, 1830 - 1894)

Like wind moving through and impacting me and my environment, I see evidence of the Immortal everyday. The more I study to know Him and the more I seek Him in meaningful prayer, the more I recognize Him and His handiwork in my life and in the lives of those for whom I pray.

Psalms:111:10: The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

You were on a right track here, Friend.

The spirit/soul is immortal, the physical is temporal. It is a universal teaching of almost every religion and spiritual path. It is not unique to Christianity. I honour and respect that you have found peace and faith in your chosen religion. But please honour and respect those who chose another path.

Paul acknowledges the Athenian religion and culture, incorporating them into his presentation:
"Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: 'People of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: 'TO AN UNKNOWN GOD." (Acts 17:22-23 NIV)

Paul cites the Cretan philosopher Epimenides and the Cilician Stoic philosopher Aratus in his message:
"For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring." (Acts 17:28 NIV)

In this encounter, we witness the honor and respect the apostle Paul gives to his first century audience.

"Peter puts murder right down with gossiping and criticizing others; he makes no distinction between them at all. Paul did the same thing. Actually, Paul and Peter and James agree on everything. They are all preaching the same gospel that produces the same kind of life." ([/I]Thru the Bible, Vol. 5: 1 Corinthians-Revelation, Dr. J. Vernon McGee)

Are Peter, James and Paul preaching the same gospel? Why or why not?
