that's awesome for you, glad it's worked out so well for you and that you are happy and confident with the choices you have made in life

I don't view life or judge others by what I have been blessed with, or given or managed to do for myself. I do not expect from others what I am capable of doing...some of my friends are extremely well off. Some of my friends, not so much...I love them equally. My dad was an observer of people and I learned it from him, not judging was one of them and I have never questioned that. We do not know the heart and soul of another.

I was blessed with good solid parents, they loved me and helped everyone they could, that's my mind set not only from how I was raised but it is the spirit within me ....my dad was sick from the time I was little, he worked everyday and he should not have...they struggled. I saw their struggle and I grew up fast because fear is contagious especially when you fear for your kids...kids know... what they sacrificed in order to give me the best they possibly could was appreciated and I was an old soul from the get go...

I feel what others feel...it is inherent...
We've all had or will take knocks. How do you go wrong preparing and being wise about the future.

Apparently being frugal is something to oo and awe over. There are TV shows that make people who are wise with spending look like social anomalies.

Anyone can set aside the price of a cup of coffee a day and turn it into wealth. It's nothing worth making TV shows over.

I think some people's knocks are way harder than others...what they are willing to compromise also differs...I could not be with a man who was hard or angry or unfeeling...it's not something I have known from my parents (role models) I also could not be with a man I did not love...I would prefer to be alone...others put their money together and make the best of it

not my way but I can't say it is wrong for them

I'm not thinking that putting aside a couple of dollars a day is going to do much these days...maybe, but...I don't see it

and in ways one can't imagine until it happens...for instance...here in Canada our health care is covered until it isn't...lots of cancer drugs and various other drugs are not covered ever or until you are over 65, sometimes health becomes a choice some have to juggle to make...hard choices...others are covered when they get sick...strange but true

also living with someone who develops alcoholism or bipolar or...oh my god...so many things

Being frugal doesn't make someone mean.

$55,362.84 that is what not having a cup of coffee day at 3% annually turns into over 40 years.

Nah, with me it's more hard and unfeeling. I'm quite dispassionate in my indifference to human suffering.

One of the human interest stories out of Ferguson dealt with a woman who was trying hard. At one point she had a job, but didn't have the money to both pay her rent and register her car properly. She needed the car to get to the job, though I suppose petros woulda just got up at 2 in the morning and used his manly stride to cover the sixteen mile commute. So she tried to let the registration slide until next payday. They caught her. Turns out the court she had to go to was only open half a day per week. So she missed a day of work to go to court, and her case was never called. Then she got on the merry-go-round of late fees, missed appearances, and so forth, and ended up with over $15,000 in fines and fees. She also lost her job because her boss said she took too much time off to try to get to her multiple court non-appearances.

Riiiiight no choice but drive by herself. No other poor need rides a or she couldn't carpool let alone take advantage of the $245 a month transit subsidy.
