Petition: Stop the CBC Budget Cuts

Stop the Harper Conservative CBC Budget Cuts! - Liberal.ca

As our Conservative government prepares to leave office they are starting to get rid of important departments and agencies.

One crown corporation they want to get rid of is The CBC our public broadcaster. CBC is the only broadcaster that protects our Canadian identity. The rest of the private Canadian broadcasters are American clones.

Our government spent an embarrassingly small amount of money on the 50th anniversary of our flag and had no special ceremony on Parliament Hill.

If you want to show your Canadian patriotism then consider deeply and sign the petition to save the CBC.

Yep, what percentage of the total budget is taken up by C.B.C. costs? Maybe 1/4 of 1%. Accurate communication is essential- C.B.C. should be enhanced!

The public service part wasn't all that expensive, as a public utility it justified spending $1M so 100 people could hear the station. If you were in that last 10% you would see it as a good investment, as it is as long as you got what is was good for then that is as far as the public funding should have gone. (as you were a donator)

Perhaps they should sell advertising like commercial broadcasters and get their money that way.

Not a CBC fan...........

But not a fan of regurgitated US pulp either.

Just don't take away the CFL or Hockey night in Canada.

Kill Don Cherry if you like.

Not too worry about the CFL, Nug...................TSN takes care of the broadcasting very nicely.

Captain more like modernized the Canadian Identity like 1982 Constitution Constitution Act, 1982 - The Canadian Encyclopedia and 50% Canadian content on the radio stations and a lot more Taxpayer money for the CBC is worth it

Pete did more to harm this country than anything else... In fact, one could argue that he was the father of Canada's mentality for endless entitlements.

We are still paying off the very expensive debt that he orchestrated... That is his legacy

...then it should be relatively easy for its fans to support it....oh, I forgot...you're part of that selfish generation that wants all their goodies while the government runs a deficit and sticks your children with the bill.

Like make the Politicians wear driving suits with corporate labels sewed on so we know who to buy from? Driving the economy into the ground should actually get - points, you know, like in the real world. Let them pay the yearly salary and 'we' can do the bribery part as those are the group that seems to get what they want more often than not. +5% each year for 50 years is better than 50% profit for 5 years and then nothing.

If my task is to grease the wheel and it falls off it isn't going to be from lack of grease.
That being said, grease isn't a fix-all either.

I don't think they need to be doing original TV series myself. They should probably diitchn the money makers lie Hockey Night in Canada too. At one time, when they were the only hockey available for a large chunk of the popualtion, it made sense. Keep CBC International for the ex-pats and our men and women in uniform overseas. Not sure what to do with the CBC News website. It's free but the news isn't that great. I'd make it more bare bones.

If the CBC drops NHL then NHL web should allow the at home user to use all the various camera angles that is currently used in a broadcast, that would include off ice cameras also.

Web sites would be good but if the headline is the whole of the coverage then it is up me to me to have the links to sites that offer articles on the same subject.

I still think the UN ICC Court system should have 100 cases on the books and all of that material should be available for the public to the same level as pro sports is covered. (for the soap opera crowd that followed things like OJ, the watchers knew every little corner and the ICC would have a ton of video to look at so the 'jury deliberations' would be by whoever is looking and commenting)

The 'I am a refugee.' channel would be like the CBC North used to be in that to get and receive messages (in a war zone) it is with a crowd listening in and waiting for their turn. (but with NSA search abilities and fingerprint login as it comes with a credit card number and a voting number, one voting number.)

The Rogers feeds do that and are pretty good although not all advertized camera angles are available for every game.

My Grandson watches it a lot, I'm not sure what the web account gets him but blacked out games are still an issue. 100,000 at the game or 1,000,000 local viewers logged in. The global market would need the web access.

I'm just one vote (as it should be) but given the opportunity I'd spend that vote in favour of continued funding for the CBC. I realize it's not everyone's cup of tea but they can always go watch Dog the Bounty Hunter or the bowling channel on cable.

There, fixed that for you.

Tell me Colpy, Do you want to see nothing but American broadcasters in Canada? Can you not imagine the bloody mess that would be? Almost all countries in this world have at least one public broadcasting network. If nothing else, it provides an independant view of the big news stories. We sure as hell need that. Are you going to line up at the border to welcome the American networks? Sounds like you are already doing that. Do you even know what CBC is in Northern areas where CBC broadcasts in a half dozen first nation languages?

Absolutely not.

We've got Global, CTV, we had Sun,......

And I don't pay any of them a billion bucks a year.

CBC has some very good programming, I'm thinking of Power and Politics particularly.........but the vast majority of it is garbage. As I said when we were discussing the demise of Sun, if I wanted the hockey scores, or news on the upcoming Summer Games, or word on Rob Ford's latest gaffe, or some drooling over Justin Trudeau, or fashion advice for the urban transgender, or to NOT see what the Charlie Hebdo shootings were about, or hear why terrorist shouldn't be called terrorists, then I turned to CBC.

Oh, and for Power and Politics.

If I wanted to see intelligent discussion of the important news items of the time, I watched Sun.

CBC simply contributes to the continuing dumbing down of public discourse........which is perfectly OK in a free society. But I do not understand why I am paying for it.

An "independent" view?

Pul leaze!!!!

As for the North, get into the 2ist century...........it does not cost a billion bucks to broadcast to 110,000 people (the entire population of the north) in any language.
