BC Transit's $90M hydrogen bus fleet to be sold off, converted to diesel

Living in a small town like Whistler is even more reason not to own a car. I walk everywhere in town. I have a truck for work. The amount I drive my truck now hardly makes it worth owning one. If I had a car rental place in town I would sell my personal truck in a heartbeat

Unlike everyone else on this thread I have some experience of those hydrogen busses being as how I shared the road with them and even rode them a few times when I worked in Whistler.

The guy who thinks they'll be converted to diesel has No Clue you can't just drop a diesel engine into one without ripping it apart and spending more money than it's worth putting it back together-ditto NG-it ain't gonna happen.

Actually it can be done. It is simply a matter of cost. Since these busses are now five years old in may not be worth it to convert them but they still have good value either as parts or sale to other places that are using hydrogen.

Swap out hydrogen injector rails and injectors and bolt on diesel.

Probably not quite that simple. Do they run the same compression ratio and valve timing? But it is not reinventing the wheel either.

Yup. Gasoline engine needs an emulator to advance ignition timing and trick the ECU into thinking 02 sensor is working and keep the MAPS in line to covert to NG or hydrogen.

Diesel is a straight swap of injector rails and adding a diaphragm system to lower gas pressure. Very simplistic stuff.

So including installing a fuel tank, under 10G a pop.

Is anyone really surprised this was nonsense from the start
Even a worse venture than the fast ferries at least we got
aluminum welders trained for the shipyards out of that.

FUel cell powered busses had a good shot at working out. That was the reasoning behind this big a test. What shipyards hired all the welders?

Don't be silly. I have continually and consistently argued for fiscal responsibility in my time here on this forum. You, on the other hand have not. If you believe being in favour of fiscal responsibility makes me a dipper then that says volumes about your ****ed up political views.

Quite the opposite really. In true Dipper fashion, you blame all the ails of the world on your arch enemy Harper.

It's really quite predictable really

Don't be silly. Not being a fiscal conservative does not make Steve my arch enemy nor does it make him responsible for all the ills of the world. It just means he isn't what pretend conservatives like you like to think he is.
