‘No pork or alcohol’: Top London hotel being run under Sharia law?

London’s Bermondsey Square Hotel has suddenly banned the sale of alcohol, and reportedly pork, “in accordance with Sharia law” under the orders of its new Middle-Eastern owner.

The Islamic rules were imposed on the hotel on Tuesday, the Daily Mail reported.

It is not just alcoholic drinks which have been banned, but also any food containing alcohol. Items such as beer-battered fish or rum ice cream cannot be served in the establishment since the new rules were implemented, the report says, citing staff members.

An IT consultant who regularly stays at the hotel – which costs £220 (US$345) per night – confirmed to the Daily Mail that the bar does not serve alcohol anymore.

“When I contacted the manager to ask why, he told me that the new owner wanted it to be a Sharia law hotel. Under Sharia law, you can’t make a profit from alcohol.”

Staff reportedly told the paper that waiters were forced to tell their guests that several menu items were no longer available. They do not, however, know the identity of the new owner, and the hotel's food is not Halal.

However, the hotel's menu and website have not yet been updated and it still boasts a bacon-laden breakfast with black pudding and the possibility of organizing champagne receptions.

It has also continued to post pictures of its cocktail bar.

However, a notice now reads: “We no longer sell alcoholic beverages at GB Grill & Bar – Please take a look at our comprehensive selection of soft drinks!”

“We don’t serve alcohol. The new investor doesn’t wish to make a profit with alcohol,” a staff member told the Independent.

Just wait until they prevent the gays from getting in. I'd love to see the apologisers' reactions then.

First we were given tobacco-free pubs, now we're getting alcohol-free hotels.

Islam has nothing against the state of being g homosexual. It prohobots only homosexusl thoughts and acts. Ad for thoughts, how Is hotel management supposed to know. As for acts, ditto unless it's done in the hallway. Heck, the same would apply to heterosexual adultery. Men and women who are friends have been known to share a hotel room to save money but just agree yo keep their clothes on in the main room and sleep in different beds or separate sides if the same bed.

Again, there unless it's done in the hallway, the hotel would not even know.

Just wait until they prevent the gays from getting in.

That would be against the law. At this point they have done nothing wrong so there is nothing to apologize for.....unless you consider "being religious" and "doing something wrong" as synonymous. Do you?

I'm merely pointing out, as I always do, the hypocrisy of the Left-wingers who attack Christians for certain things and yet excuse those same things just because it's Muslims who do it. When it's Christians doing it, they are "bigoted". When it's Muslims, it's "their relijun, innit?"

A Christian couple were taken to court for now allowing a gay couple into their privately-run B&B, yet I doubt the Muslim owners of this Sharia Law hotel will be taken to court when they refuse to allow gays in. And the Left will come out in their droves to defend them.

why must intolerance be tolerated ever regardless of the root

we don't know at this time if this hotel will make it a point to introduce that type of anti-gay bigotry or not
it is clear they have an agenda but the fullness of that agenda is not known currently

this is not a left or right issue, it is a human rights issue, at this point the hotel has not violated any human rights

you can project all you want but it is merely projection and speculation so the conclusion is invalid.

What would Cuba have looked like if that was the way things were before Fidel instead of it being America's sin-bin where the citizens weren't subject to any laws that applied to 'their own rules'? Would there have been a 'revolution'?

The reason Blackleaf doesn't understand the difference between meat and people is that, in England, there is no difference.
That would change if TPTB also realized that they are also meat and when you are cannon fodder it doesn't matter what group you came from, you just have to be the right volume. Angry, marauding hoards hardly ever hear the Ref's whistle.

It's a hotel run according to Sharia Law.
Why not just pass a law stating that all Government employees are 'on call 24/7' so they can't ever be over the 0.08% limit as long as they are drawing funds from the public coffers. Drinks and dinner where the public picks up the $200 tab for the food and tip and the 'employee' pays $11 for 14 high powered drinks. I'm all for certain types of reformes such as the $1 drink also puts the $200 food tab on their lap also. Public food troughs are the street corner venders and other places the general public visit in throngs.

How many homeless could Buckingham Palace hold if bunks were used and the place was full? Isn't that how a Leader takes cares of his subjects rather than 'disowning them' if they make you use the red ink in the ledger?

"Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig."

--Lazarus Long
Have the apple behind your back when you ask it to start singing. When the apple is too burnt to eat then all that bacon is ready.

If they had herds of swine in the NT just what were they used for? I assume goats were the pets of the house and they got all the table scraps so that leaves the pigs basically unemployed so why were they being raised to begin with?

Why do you insist in repeatedly making a fool of yourself? There is a difference between halving a belief and denying others their rights because of your beliefs. I understand the concept is a little over your head but I can assure you, if these hotel owners start refusing service to homosexuals simply because they are homosexual, all the "lefties" that get your knickers all twisted will be the first ones to complain.
