He contacted the other whips and spoke with the NDP party members to confirm the nature of the allegations.

The statement he made today was that you need to take a measured approach but give the benefit of the doubt to those filing the complaints.

There is nothing unreasonable about the timing on all this.

And they have been suspended (not fired) which is more appropriate when you compare the situation with how CBC handled the Ghomeshi thing. They are now sitting as independents.

I think both Mulcair and Trudeau should be applauded for their level of professionalism on this issue.

It is a template for a lot of businesses to follow.

Before this reached the hairball all the info was in. 2 days max.
3 days if they were thinking.

I think any group that has officers called "party whips" don't have a lot of room to be talking about sexual misconduct.

Where do you think Gian was taught?

there's no uncertainty if you read the twitter feed. Justin Ling is referring to the 2 NDP women that have brought forward allegations - that they weren't informed... not the 2 who are the subject of the allegations. Nothing is out there yet to suggest the nature of the harrassment is sexual in nature. Since both Muclair and JT appear to be in discussion towards process/resolution... where's the beef?

Avro, your time is near........

A suspension is perfectly reasonable in this case.

I am not disagreeing with the punishment but questioning Justine's motives. He got the fully investigated case on 10/28 and I was led to believe that he required a week to interview all involved which presumably included those being suspended to make sure he had all the facts. Now we find he did not do this so the question becomes what exactly did he need the week for?

Twitter feed. that explains a lot about your thinking process.

slow down! Take some time to actually read before you simply throw out yet another insult! You see... if you did that, you'd realize it was member 'Locutus' that quoted the tweet and based his post on... that twitter comment. As I said, if you scan the twitter stream associated with that original tweet quoted by member 'Locutus', you'll see the originator clarify that his original tweet has his comment focused on the 2 NDP members bringing forward the allegations, not those accused of the allegations.

I trust member 'Locutus' hasn't taken exception to your implication about his thinking process!

This from the guy-gal-whatever you are, who has Harper as your avatar.

You're not one bit partisan eh?

huh! Me? Lil' ole me? Why would you have a problem with an image of your apparent favoured party leader?

Hahha too funny.

what's funny about an unproven allegation? Correct me if I'm wrong but I've not understood the harassment allegation to be sexual in nature. Obviously, if there has been wrong doing and that comes forward, the perpetrators should/will be properly dealt with. Surely you're not in a 'rush to judgement', are you?

You are fighting a losing battle waldo.

Best just to stick to the salient points of the topic because these lot thrive on switching to insults and changing the topic. When it becomes nothing but a slag fest, you are actually more productive just putting them on ignore.

I agree.

Trudeau has acted absolutely appropriately in this instance.

Hey!!

Even a broken clock is right twice a day......... :)

Sigh

I'm sorry guys.

I was wrong.

This broken clock must have a calendar.........it MIGHT be right once a year.

Turns out Your Favourite Retarded Party Leader didn't bother to inform the victims of this abuse that he was going full public.

I guess they just aren't that important.

Mr. Fluffy stays true to form.

Curious how Justine decided to wait for an entire week to do his duty to protect and encourage individuals in these situations to come forward.

What a patriot and upholder of justice that Justin guy.

I have no problem with the week.....the guy needed a little time to investigate and assess his options. Not like they were going anywhere.

I DO have a problem with him not consulting with the victims, in fact totally ignoring them as he went forward.

Makes it very clear he doesn't give a rat's a$$ about the female MPs, the victims, he just needs to be damn sure he is politically correct.

To hell with the victims.

the man is an A$$.

victims? Rush to judgement, hey? You do realize one of the "victims" (as you say), came to JT in the first place. Are you privy to what was said there? Have the names of your "victims" (as you say) been released? I'm not aware of the names of the 2 NDP members names being released... can you provide the names of your "victims" (as you say)? Thanks in advance.

The question is; for whose benefit was that week spent?... Fair to say this was about damage control for the Libs and to hell with the women that are at the center of this situation.

That said, all the bluster from Trudeau on sexual harassment is jaded by the significant delay in addition tothe spin-doctoring of the event into one of personal misconduct (especially in light of the evolution of the Ghomesi situation) adds to the face-slapping for these women that were allegedly harassed.
It's politics, I get that... It's also formed on the principle of innocent until proven guilty, I get that too, but Trudeau has already passed judgement on these MPs by virtue of suspending them and is further victimizing the NDP MPs in question by unilaterally making the announcements.
He could have handled this a lot better
