What a sh itty lesson.

It's unfortunate that we have to treat everyone as a possible criminal in order to protect ourselves. It seems so wrong to be punished again for someone stealing from you.

I have simular PINs between my debit and credit cards. I think I need to change one.

That's irrelevant if you don't tell anyone!

Bankers don't care about legalities, they just follow the money. Whoever looks like the best bet is the one they hound.

He's a loser on two counts, he should have known her well enough to know what she was capable of and he's an idiot for divulging his P.I.N. My wife is 110% trustworthy but I would give her my P.I.N. for two reasons one, she couldn't divulge under any duress and two if something did happen I could truthfully tell the bank I didn't divulge it.

Are you telling us you do not trust your wife enough to have your pin number? Or is that different? .

Sorry, Sal, we have to agree to disagree on this one. I would never give my wife my P.I.N. and it's got nothing to do with trust.

Okay, interesting, I couldn't be in a relationship with someone I couldn't give my PIN to. He also has various passwords I use. I would trust him with my life, no hesitation.

Do you and your wife have separate cards on the same account? Or a joint bank account? That is the same as giving her your PIN

We have separate cards which we can put any account on that is joint. There is just no reason to have to give someone else your pin, she can access the joint account on her card. It's got nothing to do with trust or honesty. People have been tricked into making honest mistakes. As long as you are the only person who knows your P.I.N. then if someone hacks your account the bank can't hang any blame on you.

Not quite. It's the same as long as there are no problems, if you give your P.I.N. to someone, the bank couldn't give a sh*t if it's the Pope.

Sort of. Your wife could still clean you out legally even if it is a joint account so it is not much different than giving her your pin #

If my wife cleans me out deliberately that's a whole other problem, I would more upset if she cleaned me out accidently and so would she.

Whenever I get a "red" as soon as I see it I automatically "know" which A$$hole gave it to me and 99.9% of the time, sure enough!:)
Make it 99.95%:)

All too often crime does pay and the card thief sure got off free. Lucky her.

In the short term perhaps, but over time things have a way of evening out or as the old adage goes "you reap what you sow"!:)

I'm with you on that one. Trust is absolute or else it's not trust.

The guy was a victim of a crime. I don't like blaming the victim. I thought as a society we've moved beyond that

we may have but banks will collect from where ever they can. Legally or not.

The banks can only do it because there's no backlash against them doing it. I'm sure if enough people called the bank with their displeasure instead of calling the guy an idiot on a web forum the bank might have a change of heart

bankers have no hearts. Also they get away with it because usually the guy they are harassing can't afford the costs of fighting them.

They may have no hearts but they have brains. They understand pissing off their customer base is not a good thing.
