The Death of Lifelong jobs

I was thinking about this yesterday for me lifelong job was never a sure thing.
I started in the orchards
became a grocery clerk
went into radio for three decades
managed night clubs
sold newspaper advertising
did television commercials
night club DJ
farm sales rep
retired and came back to the farm
now I am farming and the president of a farm organization
and sit of national and provincial boards of directors
and slowly working on putting an internet radio station together
a year behind schedule
in addition I have two books of poetry copy write stage no time to publish

I enjoyed every minute of everything I did it game me insight into the views of the world
it also taught me to be tolerant of others and some point to say enough its about
balance.
I don't think life long jobs are a good thing they teach people to be comfortable and
not reach out to try new things

It is sad today also that we have not taught young people how to look for a job
our society should expect people to at least be able to speak about their skill set.
No we should not expect an assembly line job for life. Life should be much more
adventurous and learning a multiple skill set allows one to adapt in a changing world
it also provide more understanding of what other people do and how they work as
hard at their job as i do at mine and bring a different skill set we all compliment each
other in the national workplace

Interesting story.


In work in economic development I'm starting to realize that some people in the future will never hold a job but may become successful as "contractors"

They've been gone for a long time.

Since the ascendence Global Free Market Capitalism destroyed the integrated industrial national economies... and a small cabal of financiers and traders, fronted by the IMF, World Bank, WTO, took over the world economy from legally elected governments. With that has gone all sense of security, benefits, pensions, sustainable income.

The BIG LIE spread by these Wall Street/Bay Street/Cityof London buffoons and their academic and political lackeys.. is that this is 'Inevitable'. It is not. It's only a vehicle that guarantees grotesque wealth, virtually untaxed, to a morally eviscerated, parasitic elite... and a life of desperation bound servitude at subsistence wages to the rest of the world.. on which their profit equation rests.

It will only get worse until it is overturned.. or collapses into a Depression of unknown depth and duration.

looking for a job in today's market is much different than how we did it...we burned leather...now your resume is frequently emailed with little chance to present yourself, in fact presenting yourself is considered inconsiderate.

Well, there was two or three advantages to it, it was work I was interested in, that there was a good demand for and not liable to become obsolete. I guess it doesn't get much better than that!

Well, one thing I notice with my grandchildren is the tendency to drop off a resume and let it go at that. I keep trying to tell, them be on the job site at 7 A.M. Monday morning when the drunks and partiers don't show up for work and they need someone right away.

This is not new news. We were told the same damn thing back in the 70's when I graduated.
