Well the Boston Marathon attack was a time when many people around the world noticed the irony that the city which funded IRA terrorists was itself the result of a IRA-like attack. That irony exists. Nothing can change that.

As for this incident in Canada, there's no way that guy should have been allowed to get into parliament after previously being on a shooting spree beforehand. Why wasn't he taken down?

Don't worry. Over the next few days TV screens and the internet will be full of people questioning why this guy was allowed into the Canadian parliament building in the first place after going on a shooting spree outside beforehand. It's not like he wasn't obvious and noticeable.

Pointing out things like irony when people are hurting is the sort of thing only a self-involved ignorant toad would do. I see you've even got one the single most positive, fair and upbeat members here telling you to f-off, that should be clue for you right there. And if you were any kind of a human being at all, you would listen.

You are on a Canadian site filled with Canadians....and might I add a fair number of Americans who, from what I've seen, have stepped up like normal, decent human beings to offer condolences....this is not the time nor the place to be questioning anything about our country or our people, nor making any stupid comments on irony. They are not welcome here. Not here and not now. People are being shot at. Want to fuking do that, go do it somewhere else, you ignorant bastard.

We, the proud Canadians of Canadian Content, are fed up with your bullshi*t. Fuc*k you and Fuc*k off.

Muslims who murder in the name of Islam are not called "crazy". Christians, Buddhists, Hindus etc would be "crazy" if they did those things but not Muslims. These fellows are just being good Muslims by doing Allah's bidding. Where's the "crazy" in that?

When Muslims go on shooting sprees in the name of Islam people try to separate them from Islam, by saying things like "What these terrorists did was not, as they claim, in the name of Islam. This had nothing to do with Islam and most Muslims will be appalled at the terrorists' actions."

It's hard to keep track of these competing conspiracies.

The finest police on the planet are the British police. And in Britain, unlike Canada, no terrorists armed with guns would have got anywhere near parliament, never mind actually getting in it. These Muslim terrorists managed to get through Canadian "security" like a rugby player barging through a bunch of schoolgirls. Had the Canadian Mounties in their un-ironic uniforms really been the finest in the world they would have prevented terrorists from getting into the Canadian parliament building. Yet they didn't. Had these guys tried to get into Buckingham Palace or the White House they'd have been dead before they got within ten feet of the front door.

You are a fuc*king heartless bastard. Your stupid commentary is not wanted. Fuc*k off.

Yeah, heard about that. Seems we'll need to adjust our current method of dealing with radicalized invididuals. I think we need to revoke citizenship and ship them out.

Yeah, revoking the passport just pretty much guarantees that if they go off, they're going to go off here. We should be sending them brochures about how lovely Sharia Law is working out in Syria.

sooo...just checkin' in to see how we're all doing

...within a few posts mentalfloss trolls the board with an iron and some captain obvious statement that the shooter had a long gun (meaning of course he disagrees with what the cons did to that stinky registry)...if he had of stabbed the unarmed guard a la Lee Rigby, mouthyfloss would make fun of knives too I'm sure

...then he picks at the wound and trolls about long guns some more

...then happy pony lawyer guy comes around and drops names of musical ride RCMP members and concern-trolls that the mounties are the best police force in the world for effect

...well, maybe he knows them musical ride members and that's cool but ya never know eh

...then ol' bucktoothed blackleaf needs to be heard and get some digs in so drops by to state the obvious that a shooter killed an unarmed guard and then made it inside parliament hill and there was more shooting

...that's pretty harsh but it's several pages in and it's true

...and of course how his tough guy british police beat all other police and real rah rah pip pip stuff 'bout ol' england and then the members, led by bonesy call for blackhead's head...hey, just a reminder, flossy started picking your wound on the first page.

keepin' it real for ya

anyway, it's a tragedy and you can bet security will be beefy and brutish from now on and some 'folks' will even complain about that police state look and feel and such...glad the shooter is dead and I feel bad that an honour guard is dead from just minding his own business doing his duty.

Had the shooter survived Id say he should have been charged and tried. Stripping him of citizenship and kicking him out seems pointless. He was born and raised here and committed a crime here. As was the guy in Quebec the other day. They're criminals and should be treated the same as any other criminal.

Stripping people of their citizenship is frowned upon. Stateless individuals then become a hassle for other nations, so I suppose the thinking at the international law level is that you are stuck with your a-holes.

Yep. A completely low class move.

CBC is reporting he was using a long gun.

A long gun.

Mentalfloss you should be ashamed of yourself. That you would have the audacity to call yourself a Canadian and use an event like this to play stupid internet political garbage games is contemptible.

Loc, in all fairness, gotta give a pass only due to the truly decent thread he did start. Sad that a relative newcomer American has more decency towards a Canadian tragedy than a longstanding member here who is Canadian.

Why the hell is that waste of space even still here? Nobody likes him, he's ignorant, rude and generally unwelcome. Particularly today.

What we should do is all band together and collectively put that piece of garbage on ignore. Seriously.

Nope... it's my feelings, I hate.. no loath the guy.

If he is elected.. I would burn my passport and pull a Ted Cruz.

Gee, you sound sort of like Alec Baldwin.

I'm no fan of Trudeau, but I certainly don't hate or loath him and I certainly would not wish that any Canadian be killed by a bullet. Give your damned head a shake Boomer.

Until there's a definitive name to the shooter(s), I won't call them ISIL or anything else but generic terrorists.

IF it turns out they are part of ISIL, then we really will need to take serious looks at what to do about this. Much as I want to let passion and anger voice my opinion, instead I'll wait until things are calmer and rationality is a better way to look at all of this.

I do have questions though: why didn't he shoot more people before being gunned down? What was his main goal? What purpose? I have a few ideas but I'll wait to get a 'who is he' report first.

I will say, though, that IF this is ISIL related, I hope we don't play into their hands. I hope we don't change our laws, I hope we look at people today and tomorrow as we did yesterday and I hope that in the end we are still Canada, and not "Canada that ISIL changed".

To the families of those involved may your faith help you through the next days, weeks and months. We're proud of you all, the injured, the killed and the heroes.
