It is extremely likely [defined as 95-100% certainty] that more than half of the observed increase in global average surface temperature from 1951 to 2010 was caused by the anthropogenic [human-caused] increase in greenhouse gas concentrations and other anthropogenic forcings together.

100% of 50% = 50% of 100%.

Which half?

More than half means greater than 50%.

I agree, there are conditions though, let's clarify the qualification, there is the theory of global AGW and there is the actual physical AGW, only one exists. The unproven theory of AGW is provably driven by anthropoids.

I guess they upped that from the 99.998% certainty that they'd trumpeted before.. since nobody with an ounce of common sense believed that. Nobody believes them because they have no science.. no evidence.. and no history of delivering on their dire predictions.

So they are left with bumping the certainty level.. .001% at a time.. strategy aimed at the pathologically dim and credulous.. the portion of the population that you really can fool 'all of the time' and with 'anything'.

In this particular study there are no dire predictions. The conclusion is that global wamring is very likely anthropogenic. I don't think that is much of a stretch myself.

Well it comes with a lot of baggage doesn't. Once you buy into the 'A' in AGW a whole political agenda, in fact the socio-political philosophy of radical anti-human environmentalism, comes into play. They know that.

And this statement, thrown out as so much of AGW propoganda is, without an iota of scientific credibility..is a recourse to fear mongering and ignorance.

AGW is simply nonsense. Not only is there no AGW.. there is no GW.. as has become evident as the Global Warming industry has repackaged its message to that of 'Climate Change' to cover any eventuality.

This is a religion not a science.. in fact a cult.. and deems itself above having to prove its case. It must be accepted on the basis of faith.

The international religion for international intersexual, intertwined, interest free, global base zombies citizen. We will be made to worship the material earth, the old fashioned way, burnt offerings for everyone. It can't be too hot for these people.

In for a penny, in for apound? I don't buy that. Part of the problem is that the tenor of the debate (not just AGW, but environmetnal issues in general) has become so polarized, so politicized, so subject to intense propaganda by both sides. A lot of rational people are just checking out and adopting a "pox on both their houses" attitude. Too much data is as bad as too little data. People cannot differentiate the signal from the noise. The uncertainty makes them cautious. Mines and pipelines don't get built.

of scientific credibility..is a recourse to fear mongering and ignorance.

The idea that their has been measurable change in temperatures is commonly held even among the skeptic scientists like Lindzen, Dyson, Spencer, etc. The issue is around how serious it might turn out to be, not if it is happening.

Ultimately all knowledge must be held on the basis of faith. Faith in sceince has generally proved more predictive than faith in omnipotent deities.
