Financially hobbled Ontario and Manitoba beg Ottawa for more infrastructure cash http://ow.ly/A2Bh6 #cdnpoli #ONpoli #MBpoli
Instead of cutting wasteful spending, Mr. wynne begs for handouts.
TORONTO - Ontario is asking the Stephen Harper government to kick in about $12 billion more a year for the province's infrastructure, such as transit, roads and bridges.
The request by Premier Kathleen Wynne and representatives of other provinces and territories for the equivalent of a 2% share of gross domestic product (GDP) devoted to infrastructure funding -- about $30 billion across the country -- came Wednesday as she hosted the Building Canada Up Summit in Toronto.
Ontario's share of that fund would be about $12 billion, she said.
"I'm making a proposal," Wynne said when asked if she believed the Harper government was prepared to hand over such a large chunk of money on an ongoing basis.
