Why are many Christians so intolerant of other religions and spiritual paths?

When you use the old earth model the time the earth had it's first day/night cycle was 4,005,000,000 years ago as the event that marked the end of 'day1'. That would point to there being a beginning of 'day1' and if you follow the pattern set by the later days the beginning would have been 40BYA as when the material that makes up our universe first began to gather together to create what we call the universe.

That material is said to come from the 'void' and if everything created has a beginning and an end then the universe will also return to the 'void'. In modern astronomy terms our universe is expanding and currently we can see part of the matter that sheds light and that allows us to conclude the universe is expanding and that means the process will undergo changes in the far distant future. As it expands it's ability to create new stars is hampered in that when existing stars die there is not enough interaction between the material left to rejoin into a new star as it collects material from other stars that have died and exploded. That would lead eventually no stars shedding light (and heat) even though all the material (mass) is still there and that would be when the universe has returned to the place called 'the void'.

Created life would the be taken to the 3rd heaven which is where God, the Holy Ghost and Christ were when God spoke Ge:1:1 into creation.

2Co:12:2:
I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago,
(whether in the body,
I cannot tell;
or whether out of the body,
I cannot tell: God knoweth;)
such an one caught up to the third heaven.

Heb:12:22:
But ye are come unto mount Sion,
and unto the city of the living God,
the heavenly Jerusalem,
and to an innumerable company of angels,
Heb:12:23:
To the general assembly and church of the firstborn,
which are written in heaven,
and to God the Judge of all,
and to the spirits of just men made perfect,

The verses above are about the Great White Throne event and the (perfected) Angels that are there remain there and mankind is there only for a (brief) visit before they return to the earth and the start of the period called the 'new earth' in which they expand into the universe creating 'new Edens' while they can and when the starts completely vanish the living also enter the 3rd heaven again only this time we do not return.

That would make for a pattern that looks like a circular target with the universe at the center and then the void and then the 3rd heaven.

If the universe is one unit then the void is 10 units and the 3rd heaven would be equal to 100 units (in size). One other aspect is time, a 'day' on earth is 24 hours and a year is 360 days long. A 'day' everyplace else in the universe is 1,000 years long using the 360 day model and a 'day' in the 3rd heaven (like Judgment Day at the GWT) would be 10,0000 times the length of a 'day on earth' (or the 2nd heaven).
That seems to be the Bible's version.

Just heard on C.B.C. radio this morning we are due for a few more "big bangs" in the form of asteroids the size of office buildings about to hit the earth and the impact will be such that the bomb on Hiroshima will be like a fire cracker in comparison.

Just had 6.6 off Vancouver Island, didn't even cause a ripple!

we felt it here in courtenay, and my daughters felt it in ucluelet, it was somewhere up the
westcoast in the quatsino sound area, our sofa jiggled a bit and the swag light began swinging,
nothing major at all.

Every 300 - 500 years, the wet coast experiences a tsunami. Around 1700 one wiped out over 90% of the population. They are running out of time.

This is the tsunami the Natives talk about on Vancouver Island. I don't remember the story. We were told about it in elementary school by the local elders.

Cliffy, have you been itching to unpack and use your survivalist supplies? : )
You need to read that using a slow Boris Karloff voice.

I don't have any survivalist supplies. I take one day at a time. I'm not emotionally attached to this meat sack.

Ever wonder why God didn't choose a more elaborate name than God?
(admitted is that it can be expanded to LORD GOD ALMIGHTY in times of war)

I pack mine with me all the time, it's a tat that says 'do not repair', found in 4 different locations. Top of head not being one of them (unless one side of the stupid line is my permanent home) Reason being if running for cover is longer than a 100 yards at a time the position I will finish in is last, every time.

There are so many inconsistencies in organised religion, I am convinced the intolerance of criticism stems from a fear critics are correct.

Bingo. That was my experience in that intolerant "Christian" website - I mentioned Levirate marriage which clearly proves that Jesus continued to allow plural marriage but, somehow, that was not enough to convince the intolerant admin in that site. Then, despite his being a "Christian" who is supposed to refrain from sitting in judgment of anyone, the guy accuses me of promoting evil lifestyles. What a Pharisee!

The next big wave will just take bay-of -fundy Christians out as part of Thor's rapture.
I thought that way for some time but that would be killing the ones that have been set up to have heard about the return but get it wrong and rather than their belief being the shortest route to rewards it ends up being the longest when it is all said and done. That would mean during the worst calamity to hit mankind things appear to be getting better, that would mean the time of Noah (and back to Adam) was more advanced that we are today unless God coming means the quality of life 'for the elect' gets better rather than worse and that is the first group that will worship a false God, to their own destruction in that on the day of the actual return they get punishment rather than rewards.

Isa:65:12-15:
Therefore will I number you to the sword,
and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter:
because when I called,
ye did not answer;
when I spake,
ye did not hear;
but did evil before mine eyes,
and did choose that wherein I delighted not.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD,
Behold,
my servants shall eat,
but ye shall be hungry:
behold,
my servants shall drink,
but ye shall be thirsty: behold,
my servants shall rejoice,
but ye shall be ashamed:
Behold,
my servants shall sing for joy of heart,
but ye shall cry for sorrow of heart,
and shall howl for vexation of spirit.
And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto my chosen:
for the Lord GOD shall slay thee,
and call his servants by another name:

The rest of the chapter is also about the group that is under punishment. In the New Earth the 'servants' live in New Jerusalem so the ones with beasts of the field are people that live outside the city walls.

Joh:12:42:
Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him;
but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him,
lest they should be put out of the synagogue:

Are you saying a circumcised Gentile can have more than one Jewish wife???

About the only consistency I've noticed is you have a bunch of people who think they know it all and are on a power trip, who think it's their God given right to control everyone else and trip over each other trying to do it! -:)

My neighbour Henry's uncle was a projectionist at the local movie theatre. Henry says his uncle never allowed a television set in his home. His uncle viewed television as a threat to cinema and his livelihood.

Alternate perspectives to the doctrinaire, whether prelate or parishioner, are like television for Henry's uncle - a threat to their religion and their comfortable world view. Blunders keep one from seeing alternatives and from being challenged.

Had he taken advantage of that insight he would have become a salesmen for TV while owning stock in the companies that made them.
