There's no comparison. First off, CBC actually hires a decent stable of journalists. They have foreign corrrespondents all over the globe. that's what serious news organizations do. They have reporters in teh Ukraine, reporters in the Middle East. Another thing serious news outlets don't do is spend 90% of their time on editorial and opinion pieces. The CBC National, when I wathced it, had one opjnion guy and that was Rex Murphy. As often as not he sided with the Conservatives.
When you're a soldier or ex-pat overseas, the Canadians aren't clamoring to watch Sun News to find out what's happening in Canada, because you won't have a clue other than "But...but...but...THE LIBERALS!!!!" They want to see CBC.
Well, I'm in partial agreement with you, but the CBC does have its share of partisan reporters including the outspoken Terry Milewski. I don't consider Sun Television, (News). I hate the format, hate being spoon fed opinion. If it was a news station with a sprinkling of opinion I would probably check it out, but it's ridiculous.
CBC has some good folks including Peter Mansbridge. I like the crusty old Rex Murphy. CBC also has some great radio programs including my favorite: The Vinyl Cafe.
The issue really is about polar opposites. But I think the CBC was pretty rough on Rob Ford when he was first elected (before the crack scandal). I don't find myself glued to any particular news channel. I catch CTV News when I'm home, CBC Radio when I'm on the road. I rarely watch CNN or Fox unless its a huge story like the Tsunami in Japan, but I couldn't give a crap about US politics.
I've found that I'm a better listener when the other person is screaming at the top of their lungs. I suppose that is why I find Cobalt Kid's posts so irritating.
