You guys did take out the French fleet to prevent it from falling into the hands of the Nazis during WW2.

It's a pity we can't sink French fleets more often, just like we used to in the good old days. Just sinking French ships every so often when the French are stupid (or cowardly) enough to leave them available to the enemy for capture is not often enough for my liking. British males are denied a good war against the French nowadays.

War was only declared because Germany invaded Poland. It was that act of Nazi Germany which finally started WWII.

They ARE German toadies. The Germans prop up the third-rate, socialist French economy for a start.

and the British would have been very much alone in the world.

Not when they had a vast empire. In fact, a defeat for Britain in WWI could have meant the British Empire lasted for longer than it did, so a British defeat could have been not all bad.

Since my wife comes from Germany I would say it is a pretty safe bet.

The British and the French were predominantly responsible for the rise of Nazism, because they adamantly refused to cut reparations payments demanded of Germany, even when the great world wide depression of the 1930's happened.

Germany was so broke, that they could not feed their own people. The Nazi's, and the Communists both promised much better lives for the German people. It was a very near thing, but the Nazi's eventually won out.

I am not at all certain that if the Communists had won, that all of Continental Europe would not have come under their sway. If that HAD happened, then Britain would have fallen, and the world would be a very, very different place.

The First World War badly weakened Great Britain and France. The Second World War finished off the French (who have never really recovered) and pretty much bankrupted Great Britain. Britain did not recover from the effects of that war until the 1980's. And both Great Britain and France ceased to be world powers after that war.

It is ironic that Germany lost the war, but won the peace.

both countries elected to flirt with socialist governments while Germany rebuilt and went all out. Probably explains why France and England fell so far behind.

And not the fault of the Americans and Canadians, who also took part in WWI? No. It's never their fault. It was the fault of everyone else except themselves, as usual.

You seem to forget that of all the countries who took part in WWI it was the French, not the Germans, who suffered the most physically. France was the most physically damaged of all the nations and the Germans had completely devastated the north east of France. The Germans looted vast swathes of France and burned what they could not take. Hundreds of French mines - including some of the most vital to the French coal industry - and factories were destroyed along with railroads, bridges, and entire villages.

So you can hardly blame the French for wanting the Germans to pay reparations.

As for the British, they demanded that any reparation sum should include war pensions for disabled veterans and allowances paid to war widows.

Seems reasonable enough for me. Germany deserved every punishment meted out to it by the British and French.

Other countries were also broke after the Wall Street Crash, but they never became fascist.

It fills my heart with pride to think of all the sacrifices the British made in order to stop the whole of Europe being ruled by murderous fascists.
