Curses I say! CURSES!

That's easy for you to say!
Interesting point:
In countries using the Cyrillic alphabet (Russia, the Ukraine, Serbia, etc.), children are taught cursive writing immediately; they don't print. Will there be a literacy gap?
And China? Their brains are developed memorizing over 50 000 characters.
I fear the worst for Canada and its southern colony.

I was taught the Palmer method. I also used to do calligraphy. I believe my writing to be quite legible. Since working in adult education it has been eye opening for me to have to attempt to data base information hand written by kids in their 20's. For the first month it was almost illegible to me. I can now interpret various types of scrawl.

Kids no longer write in a legible manner. I don't know if it is important or not. I guess I believe it is because that was my method of written communication. These kids keyboard everything. Spelling is another thing that has gone wayside, many teachers included.

but much writing now is not legible it requires interpretation... you should try to figure out the phone numbers...freaking nightmare

In the Military, my trade, most documents were hand printed. Writing skills degraded to a low point for me.

if they were hand printed wouldn't writing skills improve?

with all the texting these kids do there is little hand writing and spelling is gone for many of them... in fact I see it too on Facebook, many people on my wall from the States are very challenged when expressing themselves writing more than a sentence or two

We would have to fill docs out- no writing - printed- so if you do not write, you lose the ability to write, lack of practice. You rarely wrote anything, it was typed.
