Harshest penalty ever in Canada for criminal ne... | Sault Star

The harshest penalty ever handed out in this country for criminal negligence in the operation of a motor vehicle causing death was given to Nicholas Piovesan in Sudbury court Thursday when he was sent to prison for seven years in the killing of three teens on Father's Day of last year.

Piovesan, 27, showed no emotion as the penalty was handed down by Superior Court Justice David Nadeau.

In addition to the prison term, Piovesan will be prohibited from driving for 10 years when he is released from jail. Piovesan will be eligible for parole in a little over two years.

Nadeau took an hour to deliver his reasons for the sentence.

The deaths of Steven Philippe, 16, Jazmine Houle, 15, and Caitlin Jelley, 15, were "horribly tragic," said the judge.

Nadeau was told Piovesan became extremely intoxicated and then pulled out of
a local bar's parking lot, driving just more than two kilometres down the road
where he struck the three teens.
Was the guy in AB intoxicated?

Was the guy in AB intoxicated?

Impaired by a medical condition - Told he could not drive-Lied on his insurance forms about medical problems. Deliberate negligence for others including his children. Knowing full well the severity of seizures and that one could occur while driving. In the news reports, the seizures had been increasing prior to the death of the child.
That in my opinion is deliberate, criminal negligent behavior.
And his wife and family enabled this behavior.

He still got sentenced. If he were drunk and stabbed somebody he'd get a deuce for that just the same. It's the going rate for manslaughter.
