We should honor those who did acts of bravery beyond anything we could imagine.
Especially when they fought for us to have the right to complain. We are more
connected to the past than we think in many cases.
I found out that my first name Fred, came about because I was named after his
best friend Fred Arthur Tromburg who fell on the beaches of Dieppe during that raid.
Fred Tromberg and my father signed up in Weyburn Saskatchewan as part of the
South Saskatchewan Regiment.
I have been looking for more information about Tromburg I have found his Grave site
in France and he is on the memorial at Kipling Saskatchewan. I don't know much
about his family or exactly what part of South East Saskatchewan he called home.
I wonder how many others living today were named after friends of Vets or family?
Remembrance Day has a lot to do with respect. It does not glorify war it demonstrates
what a waste of life is involved. It also demonstrates the level of courage our young men
and women have to put themselves on the line when the chips are down.
God Bless em all our troops have gone to the wall several times often without the equipment
they should have had and in some cases with lousy leadership but the got the job done.
Canadians were among the toughest of all on the front lines. How many know Canadians
were first off the beach on D Day and had moved 12 miles inland within a day?

I've been wearing a poppy to work here in America. Americans usually don't know what it means. They ask "What's that flower for?" And I tell them. They are impressed when I do.

I have a thread on the causes of WW2 - perhaps you should post your opinion - perhaps include if the UK and others ignored Hitlers invasion of Poland- and Stalin taking the other part. What do you see happening.

ummmm...ya....... I was in there...I saw what it was..... no thanks... Just another thread for the racists to beat their meat.

Gerry you mean you don't have the right to complain?
No the war had an effect on us all one way or another,
While I don't like the concept of war it happened and a
lot of people from this country died in defence of the
country whether some want to acknowledge that I guess
is their business others want to say thank you and so we
have Remembrance Day.
I do agree that the Western Powers built Hitler up and did
profit from the effort however it was our family members
who did the fighting Everyone has an opinion. In many
cases I agree with you but not this time

I'm saying WWI and WWII and every war since are not what earned me that right, nor did they have any impact on whether or not I maintained or lost those rights.

Again, you're not wrong. The last war the U.S. fought that affected people's rights was (possibly) the War of 1812. Ironically, they say the soldiers in WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Riraq (that's re-Iraq), &c. "fought for our freedom." Buffalo dung. Those wars had no effect on our rights and freedoms other than allowing our own government to trample them.

I would differ on WW2

I'm sure you would. The fact remains, however, that even if Germany had taken over all of Europe, and Japan all of Asia, neither possessed the means to invade North America. Even assuming they wouldn't be 100% tied up dealing with insurrections in their occupied territories.

That is a good point but open for discussion.
You are assuming that the Germans would not incorporate the elite and their military as an arm of the Germans.
