Canadian Commercials vs American Commercials

These days, it seems impossible to sell anything on U.S. TV networks without the use of explosions, interpersonal violence, gratuitous sex, car wrecks, or gunplay. It's almost a flip image of Canadian TV.


Oh heck yeah. If there ain't sh*t being blowed up an stuff I ain't buying it.


Seeing them, it's painfully obvious the U.S. is a more violent society.

Well, sh*t fire, BillyBob, why would a body buy anythin' what don't blow up? Me an' BobbyRay was settin' round the trailer yestiddy, and BobbyRay, he done figgered out a way to make pudding blow up!

He's one real American, that BobbyRay!

I'm also a critic of TV commercials. My favorites are the barbarians with their tin hats, goats, and crude manners. I find them very entertaining although I couldn't tell you what their selling. I also like the AFLAC commercials wit the duck in physical therapy for a broken bill. I find the VW ads lame, though they probably appeal to Europeans but not the North American market. I often wonder about "charities" that buy awfully expensive TV advertising; do you suppose any of the donation money actually reaches those in need?

There are too many commercials on US TV. Every few minutes.
Not sure what the States has for allowed ad time per hour but Canada allows 20 minutes per hour. And sometimes they'll run the same stupid ad 2 or 3 times in the the same ad break, like annoying people will make them wanna buy the product.
In Britain they come on only every fifteen or twenty minutes. And on BBC channels there are no commercials at all. Just continuous uninterrupted programs.
Only ones I am familiar with are ITV and BBC. BBC ROCKS and ITV is pretty good, too. BBC has a lot less drivel on and vastly better quality tv than any American and some Canadian channels. Thumbs up to you Brits for actually having entertaining tv.

My biggest complaint with on demand advertising, is that on TELUS, kid you not, 90% of the time, they are forcing you to watch an advertisement for the show you're already watching. It would be a highly lucrative advertising slot, and they're f-ing it up.
That's funny. Telus seems to be run by a buncha kids that have been eating too much silly putty.

hehe Yeah, Joe may be Canadian, but Molson's is part of Coors. Kind of an odd ad. Crappy beer, too, but then so is Labatt's, et al.
That might explain why an allegedly Canadian company would promote the notion that all Canadians do is sit around all day nursing an inferiority complex.

For Yanks: I've actually visited Canda several times for business and pleasure, and I can attest that most Canadians somehow get through their days without giving the U.S. a passing thought.
