We're going to the first OT after being tied 5 to 5 at the end of the 3rd. Toews scored. Kane scored. Sharp finally beat Tukka after several close calls. The Hawks would score and the Bruins would answer - back and forth. Lots of chances on both sides but Chicago out-shot Boston in regular time. Chicago has their legs back in this one but they really need to protect their goalie and keep the puck out of their zone. TOs on both sides. Lots of stand-offs in the neutral zone. Great hockey. Great game. The league will be buzzing tomorrow - Tukka gave up 5 goals. Take heart, Chicago - he can be beat - keep up the pressure.

Tukka gave up 6 goals - and that is probably some kind of record for him. That alone will give the team a boost. They found a way to get the pucks by him. Seabrook got the OT goal - who else? chicago won tonight, even with a goalie who let in a couple of soft ones, crawford didn't look sharp
tonight at all, he better practice that glove hand, or check the glove for a hole.
he was fine in the OT, but seemed kind of panicky, didn't look smooth at all.
toews and sharp had very very good games, in my opinion they were the two best players on the ice.
now it is best out of 3, with chicago having home ice. they had to win this one, and now that they
have, the series is theirs to win, they just have to go get it.
a few times they were sucked back into playing boston's game, but they fought their way out of that
trap, and surged forward with 'their' game, which is better puck handling, north south, not east west,
and speed, and more speed.
lots of injured and bruised and aching players on both teams, but that is the playoffs, it takes its
toll on the players who play the longest, and it will take them all summer to get back to normal,
and i'm sure a few will need surgery.

Hossa is obviously suffering from something.........Joe only put him in sparingly last night......yet still he made an impact - great effort by Marian. Corey definitely needs a bigger mitt, maybe he should trade those over-size pads he wears for one. I will give him the weird bounce off the glass to the goal mouth in front of Bergeron though.......you'd have to have eyes in the back of your head to catch that one. Fans are getting their money's worth with this series. Glad the guys get a couple of days rest before Sat's game in the Mad House. Go, Hawks, Go!
Thankfully, the refs called it straight this evening & Chi town won fair & square. Next match on Monday night - should be a goodie!

Head shots are rarely treated like they should be. Incidental hits are treated with an iron fist, yet other incidents where it is obviously dirty nothing is done about it! I kind of hope that Shannahan does take that post with the Flames as he has done nothing while in charge of player discipline. I think it just showed that he was more than likely a puppet placed there with Buttman and Campbell pulling his strings. Headshots (and other cheapshots) will continue as long as what is considered suspension-worthy or not is not properly explained. I have not been impressed with the job they are doing so far.

that were totally ignored, yeah, maybe someone else should take that job.

Unfortunately, I don't see any significant changes happening until someone ends up either paralyzed or dead due to a dirty hit.
Although the officiating is poor, and the suspension situation is not consistent, I do see in general
that the incident of dangerous hits have dropped over the past year or two.
Since the Torres suspension, (his hit against hossa), I have not seen many of that type at all.
And, the hitting directly from behind, severly smashing someone head into the glass, I think
have gone down quite a bit.
Unfortulately because of the nature of the game, we have to expect some problems, it isn't possible
for games to be totally without some hits that are questionable, and when those are discussed,
there can be a difference of opinion many times, whether they are legal or not.
A good example of that is the hit on toews tonight. When one watches that hit over and over,
I don't find anything there that is suspendable. Although the head was contacted, it was not
targeted, the glove slid into his head. Toews was hit hard that is for sure, but he was
going into that dangerous part of the ice, at high speed, and he was hit from the opposite
direction at high speed, a huge impact that is for sure.
But i'm sure that hit will have opinions that come from opposite sides. We'll have to see if
shanahan has anything to say about it, even though there was no penalty, but sometimes
they still get the call.
Stuff happens, and always will. It isn't a fine science, where they can control all of that, and I don't want to see the game brought to a point where it loses the
high emotion and speed. This is hockey, that is what hockey is.
It is a dangerous game, as many sports are dangerous, that is what they
chose to do, that is what they love, they don't want it any different.
The hit tonight was more "suspendible" than Torres on Hossa. I still see nothing wrong in that Torres hit. That call was made strictly on Shanahan's preconceived beliefs about Torres. Watch the other angle later in the film. It was a clean check. Not even remotely closely to a headshot. Unfortunately it's a tough game and people get hurt. But to get suspended for that is a complete joke.

you and I disagreed at the time of the torres hit. it was charging, he was way off the ice, jumped into
the hit, definitely suspendable.
don't see toews hit as suspendable, but this just follows up what I was saying in my last post, it is
difficult concerning many hits, because lots of people see them differently, just as we do on these
hits.
and, because torres was a repeat offender, (seabrook hit), the suspension was
severe.
I think Torres was the victim of groupthink. The facts do not lend themselves to anything except maybe a two minute penalty. Charging is a penalty, not a suspension.

I don't think he intentially hit the head, I saw the glove hit below the head and slide up very quickly,
happens quite a lot.
when two players are coming toward each other from opposite directions, at a high
speed, the impact is huge, that was the case with the toews hit, he should expect
to be hit, where he was, and should have realized his dangerous position on the
ice,players can't fly into that area, right out in front of the goalie, and think
he is going to be given any time to collect himself.
the hit matt cooke put on toews a few years ago, (no penalty) a head shot, and
that hit was the beginnings of the change of rules on head shots in the league.
Toews said himself he should have had his head up, but cooke targeted his head,
and sent him to the dressing room totally 'bell rung'.
toews was out of commission for quite a while.
there was no ruling for that hit then, there is now.
I was very embarrassed when torres hit seabrook, I hated that hit, and then when torres hit hossa he
wasn't going to get any flexability from the league at all.
he's a complete air head, or was, hopefully he has learned to think a bit now.
I'm glad torres has served time, and even this year I noticed him beginning to go right to the line with
his hits, his feet starting to come off the ice, and the hits were very hard, it was only a matter of
time till he crossed the line again, and I believe hedid get a warning of somesort, or a look, or
something from a recent hit.
he is an extremely strong man, stronger than most.
He should behave himself now, back off a bit, as he is a good playerand doesn't seem to know his own
strength or adrenalin rush, but he will now, the suspensions will have done some good for him, before he would have sent someone home seriously injured.
We just have to agree to disagree on this kreskin, and that is OK with me, everyone has their own
view of hits, and there are lots of disagreements when comparing opinions, guess that is why there is
some difficulty deciding for the league as well.

Yeah, lets hope it ends tomorrow - the same is too @#$#@ long and it's time to change the subject to CFL.
yes, and I've been following the blue jays lots lately, one more win and they will tie the
team record for wins, at 12 in a row.
I can't get into MLB games nowadays as they are too long and my attention drifts with all the time outs and commercials. Good to see, though, that the Blue Jays are doing well again. They had an awesome team a few years ago and were fun to watch.
