I think he might be onto something. Instead of the word Catholic the word religious
schools should be inserted. They are divisive and confrontational. Children of all
colours, creeds and religions should be playing on the public school grounds and
stop all the nonsense we were brought up with.

I went to public school for 11 years of my life, and I guarantee, there was always religious tension.

When I transferred over to Catholic school in grade twelve, suddenly I was in school with Jews, HIndus, and Catholics, and hearing religious tolerance taught for the first time in my life.

I can't believe the malarkey. Some of you have a warped perception of what a Catholic School is.

Really, (in Canada) Cornwall Ontario had its Catholic school and the rest public schools, all funded by the government..

Only difference is you have to be Catholic to attend it.. it should all be under the same school board and not segregated by religion.. that said, Northern Ireland would be a different case I would argue.. so would the NRA I would guess.

That was 20 years ago, maybe as Karrie says they let everyone in now, but don't think so.

They should fund themselves though. Thats my one problem with the Catholic Schools in Ontario.

The funding equation in AB allows for the rate payer to select which system their education tax goes to (public or separate).

In effect, the Catholic system in AB does fund themselves

Whee's the audio/video so that we can see whether the claim that Obama attacked Catholicism is correct ?

Get in touch with the teleprompter guy... Probably they can get you a transcript

Catholics get preference. But after that, it's essentially public. A lot of non-religious people I knew in Edmonton had their kids in Catholic school because of the more advanced French Immersion program.

Funded by taxpayers whose children attend, if you have no kids education tax on property is split between the two boards and anyone can attend.

In Ontario one must either be Catholic, or one of the parents must be Catholic. One must divert their taxes to the Catholic Board if your child attends or they do not get the funding.

Don't have to be RC, just have to designate taxes to separate school system.

then it must be district by district because here in the Waterloo area you must be RC or a parent RC...people phone and beg me, beg me seriously...they are speaking of opening it up a bit but that will take a long time.

Don't know what area you are in but just pick any Catholic school in your area and ask what you must bring with you in order to register your child. In our area if you don't have those 4 pieces of ID head off to the public school. Also if you don't divert your taxes the school loses out so you should see the frigging rigmarole I have to go through if one parent isn't Catholic...there's even more paperwork that they have to sign saying "their" portion of the taxes for the child may also go to the Catholic board. It's called a lease agreement. More rigmarole if you rent...I have to get paper work from the owner... If one parent isn't Catholic AND they also rent...more hoop jumping....

it fluctuates most schools have portables which means they can add or subtract each year. My last school had 3 portables and the one before it too. when attendance drops they remove a portable. In general I would say attendance has dropped and will continue to decline but that can be according to births in general per year. Most people that are calling and wanting to enroll just want their kids in a Christian environment they don't care if their kid is around other kids who bless themselves. We do Oh Canada followed by prayer each morning.
