.So is - was Japan,s and South Korea ,s

It's sad that you voluntarily refuse to see the political factor in this, let alone ignoring the basic demographics.

Let me give you a hint here: compare the per capita numbers of the middle, upper-middle and upper classes of SK and Japan against China.

See any glaring differences yet?

.... I thought not.

The Soviet Union was also a fast growing economy when it started.

Either way, the only "real" China that I recognize with any future is that which resides on the island of Taiwan in the Republic of China.
China's been there for thousands of years, and gone through some major changes. It has staying power.

No it hasn't. China in its current form is relatively new and contains many different ethnic groups.
We're not really disagreeing. That's pretty much what I meant by China having gone through some changes. Nonetheless, it still regards itself as China.

Germany's gone through some changes, too, in its much shorter history, but it's still Germany.

China is an interesting place. I have always been repulsed by the totalitarian government that has never been communist. But with almost a billion people and so many different ethnic groups, I recently began to think that totalitarian government might be the only way to manage its population. I do think that their economy, though, may be too dependent on the west. With the west being on such shaky ground financially, China's new found wealth may not be very stable. If the world economy takes a dive, China will have no other choice but to start acquiring much more land through conquest of their neighbouring countries. With India fast approaching China's population, this could lead to a very unstable situation in Asia. As the Chinese say, "We are in interesting times."

I'm not so sure about that. In addition to the impressive physical and military complications of conquest, China historically hasn't shown much interest in expanding geographically beyond "Great China," which generally means China and certain peripheral areas.

Not claiming to know all about it, but I think the one-child policy is pretty strong evidence that China is far more willing than Europe to control, or at least slow the growth of, their population rather than go a-conquering.

But what do you do with 200 million testosterone driven young, well armed men with no women? China has out grown its borders. That has never happened before.
