China is an interesting place. I have always been repulsed by the totalitarian government that has never been communist. But with almost a billion people and so many different ethnic groups, I recently began to think that totalitarian government might be the only way to manage its population. I do think that their economy, though, may be too dependent on the west. With the west being on such shaky ground financially, China's new found wealth may not be very stable. If the world economy takes a dive, China will have no other choice but to start acquiring much more land through conquest of their neighbouring countries. With India fast approaching China's population, this could lead to a very unstable situation in Asia. As the Chinese say, "We are in interesting times."
