I had one for a pet when I was young. They're hard to train. The boys rescued one that was hit by a puddle jumping snowmobile, kept it in the bath tub until they found an aquarium.
But I still eat turtle soup when we go to ceremonies and festivals. It's actually really good.
I've had lots of people tell me it's very tasty, I don't doubt that it is.
We lived in a rented farmhouse for a few years when I was growing up and, as was usual for the time, the kids spent the majority of the day outdoors, lol. I can remember finding turtles down by the creek bed, and I could just watch them for hours. Which, ok, they don't move to fast so if you wanted to see them do anything, it required a few hours commitment, lol.
My son has this thing about ducks, same as I have with turtles. He 'can't' eat duck, I think duck is absolutely delicious. But I guess we just have an 'affinity' of sorts with the respective animal. I can't explain it any better than that.
