The Band's auditors provided the financial reporting as requested by their client (Spence). The gvt can (and do) demand opportunity to audit the books of a company/group as well and will often question the logic of the accounting group that provided the original reports.

In the end, the principle is no different than Enron and how they got in trouble... They too had a large accounting firm do their books (read: audit) but upon further analysis, the IRS uncovered enough to sink the entire company.

Ultimately, if Spence has nothing to hide, this would be a non-issue; but seeing that she is willing to camp-out on an island outside Ottawa and starve herself (as per her 'hunger strike'), it's pretty much a slam dunk that she is got something that she doesn't want the auditors finding out

Gvt's audit will make clear what the 'significant gaps' are and where the money is..... Until the Band (read: Chief Spence) cooperates to shed some light of these 'significant gaps' gvt will keep digging and digging and digging... The point is, this is an ongoing process and teh audit will take a long time to complete unless Spence et al decide to facilitate the issue (that is when she's not too busy hunger striking).

Yup. Indian and Northern Affairs had it done but there are things in a basic audit that may look above board but still require a forensics audit to uncover shenanigans.

If a forensics audit were to happen, it would uncover said shenanigans AND uncover those who are stroking the Rez for money who aren't part of Council which is the type of thing that can destroy a community.

We'll have to wait and see how far this goes.

I know what Petros is going on about. Mostly it is "Look at that flying pig over there". To use solid wood and be thermally efficient the walls would have to be about a foot thick. Other wise you couldn't pump heat into those shacks fast enough to take your parka off. The ones he posted have about 3 in thick walls. Might do for a summer cabin at the lake in florida. I also have serious reservations about the roof taking the snow load. These shacks are about the size of a small house trailer. There are better options.

So many photo ops with this woman eh. Justin (Peter Pan) T., most of the dippers. They be lovin' it.

Freeloaders do tend to band together.

The consequence is enormous.
The Chiefs get power to sign and sell out. They reap the graft and sell out the land to mining companies, and logging companies.

The push is on, and without the Idle No More , and the occupy wall street movements there is no opposition that works.

Do we really need this push to rape our land.

I read the links. Nowhere did I see any mention of doing a proper audit. And I don't mean the accounting firm hired by the band to look over the books. To do a proper forensic audit for that size of organization would probably take a team of bean counters 3 months to do.
