Vancouver Island
just checked, the islands full, no vacancies, anyone coming to canada must go elsewhere, we have

lots of elbow room here, lots of room on the beaches, no crowded polluted areas, and we want it to

stay that way.

However keep checking, maybe when someone moves out, a new one can move in.

lol, of course. I came here in l980, will never move out.

No worries, won't see me moving back to the Island. Didn't like the people there very much or the rain. At least not in Victoria. Very cliquey. Lots of petty crime too. B&E's etc. Nanaimo a little better attitudes but not much. Pemberton or maybe sunshine coast is the only place around the west coast I would consider these days if I could learn to deal with all the rain. Campbell River or Courtney maybe if you want to be in a small quiet town and can deal with the idea of having to take an expensive ferry if you need to go to the mainland.

I will gladly help you out with that sarcastic (we are full) nonsense of yours if you want. There is a reason you are NOT full and never will be. Because the area you live in is overrated.

Folks is generally folks. A lot of times your impression of them is a reflection of their impression of you! Of course within a large population there's bound to be a few snots and a$$holes, but they're everywhere!

It's common knowledge that Victoria is cliquey. You don't have to take my word for it. Okanagan is like that too but not quite as bad imho since many of the biggest most pretentious aholes in their bright yellow or lime green hummers only live here for the summer.

The rest of the year it's just like anywhere else in BC more or less.

Why not start a new thread about housing and costs instead of digging up a 6 year old post?

Oops i see that has already been questioned.
Nice though,I allmost forgot about my buddy Zoofer,is he still around?

We go back a fairly long ways.
Hope he's in good health and being constantinople like still.(Don't ask if you don't know Zoof)
He pulled a good one on a different forum once.

Actually you are partly right, I lived there for 5 years, my sister has lived there most of her life. Oak Bay, especially the Uplands are, maybe even Fairfield a little, but other areas like Quadra St., Vic West, Esquimalt and View Royal and Langford aren't.

Can you read or are you from Osoyoos?

Can you? If so, in the future, when giving out sage advice to people, you might want to check that the question wasn't asked six years ago.

HUGE necro post boys, move along.

I lived in Langford for 4 years and it was ok but morning commute to Victoria just kept getting worse and worse and I eventually had enough of that. I guess they added more lanes since then but assuming it's like any other city that never helps for very long. Was nice to go out to Sooke and beyond once in awhile as it's not too far. Lots of nice day trips one can do but that get's old after awhile and then it becomes like anywhere else. Beats the heck out of anywhere in Ontario or Alberta though that's for sure. No snow to shovel in the winter and don't need to cover your outdoor water taps.

Unless you are the gov't worker type not much in the way of good jobs though. You couldn't pay me enough to work in some thankless meaningless gov't job where your only motivation is a paycheck. Best option is to start a business but if you need to rely on the local economy it's cut throat. Hard to tap into the locals because they see too many people come and go so they are very picky about who they give their business to. Same goes for the Okanagan. Business failure rate here is probably double what it is in most other cities the same size or larger.

From what I see, most people here are already independently wealthy or make their money elsewhere. Lots of people commute to Oil/Gas fields. A lot of internet businesses. Stuff like that. Anything is possible. However, don't expect to just drive in with a uhaul, find a reasonably priced place to live and then find a good job that pays you a fair wage. The supply/demand curve is too out of whack here for that.

Moving to Courtenay or Sunshine Coast - no luck so far finding 2 bedroom rental in a descent place for a descent price - any suggestions?

Have you ever thought of Duncan? I just happen to own a house there that might be for rent.

My old home town!

Does anyone have experience of living in Grand Forks, BC area? We are currently living in Summerland. We have a young soon to be 3 year old. I have a wonderful opportunity in Grand Forks for work, have my second interview on Thursday. My hubby is seeking work as a Red Seal Welder. As beautiful as Summerland is the opportunities are scarce here and after struggling for 4 years we believe we have to move on. Heading to Grand Forks for the interview but also want to check out the community.

We lived in the Boundary for 10 years including 9 in Grand Forks. Most of the people there are quite friendly. Some people complain about the lack of shopping facilities there, but we never really found it a problem. Perley Elementary School there is second to none, our grandchildren attended there and the teachers were very dedicated. G.F. also has a very good library, arena, curling rink and theatre. There are 3 major grocery stores........Extra Foods, Overwaitea and Buy Low Foods. Spokane is about 130 miles. Climate is hot in summer, cool in winter and fairly dry year round.

50 acres in Kootenays BC

Then why do I live here?
Masochism?
Again, you must be from Osoyoos because your reading comprehension is apparently lacking. Where exactly in the Kootenays do you live?
Ain't tellin but it's not where you want to be judging by your comments.
I know just about every square inch of that area including all the forest service roads and could probably tell you things you didn't know about that are right under your nose.
So? I could probably tell you stuff about this area that you don't know. Like if I told you the GPS coordinates of our place here, could you tell me how many trees I've logged off and how I logged it?

Still have a few acres of waterfront out there that has been in the family for generations. My family was one of the founding families of one of the towns there.
That supposed to impress me?

Grew up in the OK and Christian Valleys, I've been around a few areas of BC and a few places between here and Colombia, still live here in the central Koots, don't want to live anywhere else, and the only season I don't like here is mud season but I don't brag about much of what I don't like about places. Sorry you seem to feel so miserable here in BC for 10 months of the year.

Oops. I just replied to a zombie............. thread.

So from what I hear living in Grand Forks is good? I have done some research and from what I have read it seems like a great place. I remember camping at Christina Lake growing up and have traveled through the Kootenay region but living there I have never experienced. Excited to explore the area a little this week. Hoping it will be a good move for our little one.

Yep, I think you should like it. About the only downside might be industry, mainly dependent on logging and the mill. There is the Insulation plant and the Abrasives plant.

Well I am a Nurse and have a great opportunity there. Not too often that Nursing permanent jobs come up there. I am very excited of the opportunity. My hubby hopefully will find a Welding job in the area.
