Yes, it is definitely my belief system that is preventing me from living the same lifestyle as Tom Cruise. I definitely need to become a Scientologist to rectify this, then I'll finally be able to live like I am rich and famous. I already get to live like I'm crazy.
I read in the initial post that a quoted teacher had stated Savage had said the whole bible was crap and should be disregarded among other statements that strayed completely from the theme of bullying. Speedo wearing husband appropriate to mention to teens; WTF?
We can learn to ignore the bullsh** in the Bible about gay people, the same way we have learned to ignore the bullsh** in the Bible about shellfish, about slavery, about dinner, about farming, about menstruation, about virginity, about masturbation.
where did you get the quote from Savage?
"Though recordings of the keynote speech are unavailable, Savage has made similar comments in the past, which can be found on YouTube. Among them:"
Students Walk Out on Dan Savage | CitizenLink
I was curious because of the above..... since there is no recording, everyone would be paraphrasing... n'est pas?
where did you get the quote from Savage?
Just so you know what he actually said:
Seems pretty tame, doesn't it? Bear in mind also that this was a Journalism Education Association/ National Scholastic Press Association conference. Also bear in mind that Savage received a standing ovation at the end of his speech.
Also, it is always appropriate to state that you are attracted to your spouse. Always. Naked, clothed or in swimwear, that is an extremely positive message.
Because most people here in the west are far more acquainted with the Bible, than they are with other religious texts.Well yeah but, why mention the bible at all? Is the bible the only religious literature that advocates anything related to bullying?
Seems reasonable to me.Savages’ is not without controversy. During the address when he began talking about the bible, making a Christian school got up and walk out when Savage said, “We can learn to ignore the bullsh** in the Bible about gay people, the same way we have learned to ignore the bullsh** in the Bible about shellfish, about slavery, about dinner, about farming, about menstruation, about virginity, about masturbation."
I applaud the actions of Savage, he is a good man.
Just finished watching about a 1/2 dozen or so of his video's. In pretty much all of them he is VERY vulgar and definitely not someone that should be speaking in front of a high school audience in that way. Also, it's ALL his opinion. That's it, he has no formal education or training when it comes to his "advice". I would say that his "opinion" is no more valid than any other "layman" and personally find him to be out to lunch on many things.
“It’s funny,” he added, “as someone who’s on the receiving end of beatings that are justified by the bible, how pansy-assed some people react when you push back.”
This is the guy who made the definition of the word santorum, after all. Here's him calling the people that walked out pansy-assed:
Ya, those "people" were high school kids. What a big fu ckin man he is.
The audience seemed to think he was big deal. They gave him a standing ovation, after all. The people that walked out just didn't want to hear what was being said. Apparently, they were all for anti-bullying as long as it wasn't anti-gay-bullying.
What a pile of crap. He's as much of a bully as anyone else. His comments concerning Christianity and Bisexuality, while not uncommon from Gay's, shows his bigotry when it comes to those that don't "fit" with his thinking.
Yeah, comparing gay bashing to eating shell fish is the pinnacle of insensitivity. Calling someone pansy-assed for not being able to deal with a person calling one belief bullsh** is totally the same as beating someone up for being gay.
