Police are investigating after a 25-year-old man was shot dead in Langley, B.C., following an attempted break and enter at a marijuana grow-op Friday night.

The victim, identified as Korey Kelly, was found by Langley RCMP at 16th Avenue and 272nd Street, after a 911 call alerted them to the incident at around 9:30 p.m.

The RCMP were flagged down en route by two men , who led the officers to a vehicle where Kelly was discovered in the back seat. BC Ambulance Service transported Kelly to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is conducting an investigation with the support of Langley RCMP.

Grow-op connection

Sgt. Jennifer Pound says the shooting does not appear to be gang-related but Kelly was known to police and had a criminal history in Ontario.

“Although the investigation is early, it appears that this shooting is as a result of an attempted break and enter to a residence containing a marijuana grow operation,” she said.

IHIT is currently interviewing several persons of interest for both the break and enter and the homicide.

“Investigators are attempting to piece together the details leading up to this shooting. Interviews and scene processing is underway to assist in answering the many questions that require answers," said Sgt. Jennifer Pound.

The IHIT is asking anyone who may have information about this homicide to come forward and speak with investigators.

Witnesses are asked to call the IHIT tipline on 1-877-551-IHIT(4448) or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

and for the uninformed, the reason I point out the distinction is because Aldergrove, where I moved from when I came to Calgary, has fallen into a hole of late. Lots of gang activity, shootings, murders etc. Whereas there are many many areas in Langley that are still quite safe to raise a family. It's not a fair paint job.
