I doubt there are many CFL teams that aren't envious of the Lions' QB, talloola. But it was BC that gave him the chance to show his stuff and it is the Lions who are reaping the benefits of their foresight. Good on Wally for seeing that the 'red head' could and would perform for the Lions. Never was much of a fan of Wally's but I really came around this past season and now see why you are such a Wally backer.
When Bob O'Billovich was in BC he recruited Lulay and has been in Lulay's corner at every step. I heard him on 1040 a couple of years ago when he asked the reporters how his "buddy Lulay" was doing. Felt he had a lot of potential.

yes, and wally made sure he didn't go anywhere, but if printers had of succeeded in his second go round, I
think lulay would have been gone by now, and be the starter for another team, "thanks casey", I'm glad
you behaved like a 'dithering idiot.'

Just wondering if anyone here is taking in the Grey Cup activities?

I was rarely as happy about my team as I was when they got rid of Casey Printers. That guy, talloola.............he thought he was some kind of prima donna. Not a team player at all - at least not with the Riders. Good riddance I said at the time and was not surprised to see that someone as smart as Wally soon got his number. Wally is known for giving guys a chance, but this guy was over the top.

when printers was interviewed he always seemed to be saying what he had memorized, sounded like some
fake perfectionist, who was so giving of himself and thinking of everyone else. NOT TRUE, he wasn't
talking from his heart, but from a script he had studied, but when the chips were down the true casey
jumped out, and what a fool he made of himself in front of the whole audience, 'bye bye charlie', forever.
I'm sure wally kicked himself around the block for getting sucked in by casey, but the flip side of
that is that wally believed him and felt he was being sincere, and gave him another chance, so wally
had the last word, and lulay got his chance.

I just heard rick ball today saying that when he and julio were watching the first few practices and
pre season games 'that particular season, they both said to each other, the best looking quarter back
so far is 'lulay'.
Some real nice pictures of lulay in the province paper today, one right on the front page.
won't be 'at' the game, but we'll see right up close on our big hd tv.

I'll try to quote what 'benevites" (sp?) said about his thoughts about the up coming
grey cup game, " IT WILL BE A DEFENSIVE WAR "

No big surprise.........but still glad to see that Travis Lulay won the MOP award at the Gibson's/CFL Finest Player's Awards tonight. Paul McCallum won the Outstanding Special Teams Player award. Congrats, guys........well deserved.

Other awards went to:
Jerome Messam (Eskimos) - Outstanding Canadian
Jovon Johnson(Bombers) - Outstanding Defensive Player
Josh Bourke(Alouettes) - Outstanding Lineman
Chris Williams(Ti-Cats) - Outstanding Rookie
Kevin Glenn won the Tom Pate Memorial Trophy for his outstanding sportsmanship and significant contributions to his team and community. The Commissioner's trophy was given to Larry Reda.

The only surprise for me was that Solomon Elimimium didn't get the ODP award.

Congratulations to all the winners - well done guys. Enjoy the Cup.

GO, LIONS, GO!

Five Grey Cup Players to Watch this Sunday

Some parts of the script for Sunday’s Grey Cup are expected. Cocksure Winnipeg defensive backs Jovon Johnson and Jonathan Hefney will annoy dynamic B.C. slotbacks Geroy Simon and Arland Bruce as Lions quarterback Travis Lulay tries to evade the clutches of Blue Bomber defensive tackle Doug Brown and defensive ends Odell Willis and Jason Vega. And when Winnipeg has the ball, quarterback Buck Pierce will measure his toughness against the relentless pressure from B.C. linebacker Solomon Elimimian and defensive end Keron Williams.

But a championship game is often a big stage for the unexpected, when an industrious cast member grabs all the headlines. The National Post’s Matthew Scianitti highlights some names you might want to keep an eye on Sunday.

Andrew Harris and Tim Brown
B.C. running backs
It is fair to say an effective running game was not a major part of the Lions’ 10-1 finish to the season. On their own, Harris (96 carries, 458 yards) and Brown (64 carries, 376 yards) did not break 100 yards in a game in 2011. Yet both have unique abilities — Brown offers grinding force and Harris provides tricky footwork — that B.C. uses to make its offence unpredictable. Brown, in his first CFL season, is also the team’s return specialist and was third in the league in combined yards [1,569] with nearly 1,000 yards on kickoff returns. Harris is also an aerial weapon for Travis Lulay, making 30 catches for 395 yards and seven touchdowns this season. He had two touchdowns against Edmonton in the West final, one on the ground and one in the air.

Brent Johnson
B.C. defensive end
Some hearts will hope Doug Brown finishes his 11-year career with a championship, but it could be another great Canadian defensive player who leaves a mark Sunday. Johnson, 34, is no longer the first choice off the edge because he has lost the velocity that allowed him to accumulate double digit sacks from 2004 to 2008. The Ohio State product has 89 for his career. But Johnson, the league’s outstanding Canadian and outstanding defensive player in 2006, had six sacks this season and could finish his career with a few final hard collisions.

Clarence Denmark
Winnipeg slotback
Terrence Edwards had the 1,000-yard season, but Denmark was a big-play specialist. The 26-year-old, who had 65 catches for 818 yards and five touchdowns, stretched out for the long ball, made catches flat on his back, and danced around defensive backs until he found open field all season. If B.C.’s pass rush forces Buck Pierce to run, the first-year import could be required to come up with moments of perfect physics.

Justin Palardy
Winnipeg kicker
B.C.’s Paul McCallum may have had the CFL’s most accurate season (making 94.3% of his field-goal attempts), but this Grey Cup might come down to the foot of Palardy, who will welcome kicking inside BC Place. The 23-year-old’s 76.9% success rate was one of the worst in the CFL, but Palardy had to deal with Canad Inns Stadium’s gusting wind. In Vancouver, Palardy will only have to worry about the snap, the hold and the kick. “It’s pretty simple to kick in here,” he said.

The Toronto Argonauts need another John Candy...................and that would benefit the CFL as well.

John Candy loved the Argos and was their most passionate supporter. His love for the team and all things CFL lives on long after he was taken from us.

"Headlining TSN's slate of specials is the original 30-minute documentary JOHN CANDY: TRUE DOUBLE BLUE, about beloved Canadian movie star and former part-owner of the Toronto Argonauts, John Candy, and his life-long passion for the CFL and the Argos. The original TSN production premieres Friday, Nov. 25 at 8 p.m. ET on TSN (encore on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 1:15 p.m. ET on TSN). "

There is no doubt which team will win.

That is all.

No doubt at all, Locutus. Monday morning the headlines will tell the story of the BC Lions win. ;-)

I expect Winnipeg will be really good in this game. They have been all year and thumped BC a couple of times. I'm voting for BC but feel like it's a coin toss for who wins.

Pick your corner and we'll duke it out. LOL! Seriously though, the Lions are the undisputed favs here but this is the CFL and as has happened in years past, the favs have not always lived up to the pre-game hype. However, many of those games were played in less than favorable field conditions. Since the game will not be played in the open; since the game will be played in BC - packed with thousands of screaming BC fans; since the Lions have Travis and Solomon, Geroy and Arland, and Andrew Harris .............. I for one most definitely believe that the Lions will take this game by 13 pts, at least. Those last three points will be Paul's' contribution to the win.

Go, Lions, Go. Rock on Travis.

I will be putting this topic to bed after posting the Lions' win and will start a 2012 topic during the winter to keep up with team changes over the winter.

Enjoy the game, folks.

I'll post Grey Cup pics on Tuesday. Have good rest of the weekend!

Well, I will just have to get them up tomorrow then.........LOL!

Tuned into TSN at 10 this morning so I could watch all the pre-game coverage - I really love all the behind the scenes stories that TSN does about the league and the people in it. I also get a kick out of all the 'experts' with their opinions on what the teams should and shouldn't do, what will or won't win the game, and who, in their opinion, will win the day.

No one knows who will win the Cup, for all the expert opinions, hopes and guesses. With the first snap of the ball, all bets are off.

Skill and preparation are one thing but neither necessarily are enough to win. What can turn the predictions upside down and what separates really great teams from super stars is passion. Passion to go the extra yard, passion for your team, your coaches, your fans and yourself, but most of all it is the passion that drives a team to never ever give up - no matter the score, no matter the time-clock.

This passion to win was ably illustrated by both the Marauders and the Rouge et Or in the Vanier Cup.

The Lions and Bombers have a lot to live up to if they want to reach the excitement level that was evident in the Vanier Cup.

Feel the passion guys - and give us a game for the ages.

It do seem like I'll be accepting defeat the way Winnipeg is not playing. Maybe that lucky field goal they just got is what they needed, who knows.

C'est le vie.

As far as any possible trouble afterwards goes, I think the crowds for CFL games are much older and less wankerish than the NHL kids. I do hope I'm right in the regard.

That was a great game, the kids loved it immensely (it didn't hurt that it was time to curl up on the couch with their dad before he left for a week). Here's hoping the city celebrates within reason tonight.

What a defensive battle. Nothing earned easy. BC held the Peggers' running game to 1 net yard. It wasn't too pretty to watch but the Blue didn't quit. Congrats to Wally and the gang.

P.S., I took TSN's Chris Schultz' word for the 1 yard. I notice the game stats say 41 yards.
