The Zetas—a Mexican drug cartel believed to be responsible for numerous beheadings, murders, and acts of mayhem—got on the wrong side of the hacker collective Anonymous after allegedly kidnapping one of their members in Veracruz. Now Anonymous has issued an ultimatum: Release our man by November 5, or we'll expose your identities, addresses, and allies.
In the above video, an Anonymous member warns the Zetas that "You made a huge mistake by taking one of us. Release him. And if anything happens to him, you (expletive) will always remember this upcoming November 5th." In addition to exposing the cartel's secrets, the collective also says it will out "journalists, taxi drivers, and police who allegedly cooperate with the cartel," as CNET reports. Releasing the cartel's secret info "won't be difficult. We all know who they are and where they are."

Anonymous - working for the good of everyone.

All you have to do is steal one of their members for it.

Now this an effective way to bring down the drug cartel, if they can do it they will be world hero's. Wonder why countries haven't done that yet, they try all the time with each other.

I don't know, I think it's probably pretty damned difficult to initimidate people that essentially don't give a damn about anything or anyone. But here's hoping.

Personally, I suspect it will just lead to even more bloodshed.

They are not the hackers. I used to know kids (some of my sons friends from school) who did nothing all day except try and crack systems for fun. These "anonymous" could be just college kids doing this on the side and are now linked all over the world.

The government doesn't pay that great, but those spooks have a lot of nice stuff at their disposal to use.

Still the samething. It's a felony.
It is a natural response to police brutality. Without guns and bludgeons, the people have to use what is available to them. In the age of information and technology, it is logical to use it to bring down an abusive system. War has been declared on both sides. Expect it to get messy.

Cyber terrorism has been around as long as networks have and yes it is a felony. It is just nice to see the criminals fight amongst themselves, countries are fighting with it now. ((but it not called war yet.)

It seems like an interesting idea. I wonder why the governments haven't tried cyber warfare in the "war on drugs". Or if they have, why we haven't heard about it.

Not really.

Their attack on the CoS, was about the freedom of the net, and free speech.

although the latter seems a tad disingenuous, considering they want to attack Fox News as well.

and besides, they don't ride bikes..

My guess is that some anonymous people might find themselves decapitated when they realize who they are F'ing with.

And the way the cartels work... they need only find one Anonymous member and behead them. It doesn't matter who it is or if he's even a hacker.

But what are they going to hack?
