Actually, as a retailer, you're not supposed to refuse ANY legal tender, so what would be the difference between saying you'll accept no $100 bills, or saying you'll accept only new ones?

I have seen provincially run liquor stores here in Ontario with the "we don't accept $100.00 bill" signs.

Well, apparently on researching it, I was misinformed. They are within their rights. Learn something new every day.

Canadian retailers within rights to refuse $50 bills

Which further proves my point... they can refuse any bill they want, for any reason. So, they can easily say they will accept new but not old $100 bills
