Since when is Harper and the Conservatives leading Canada to a US style of Government? There is no evidence of that statement and it is just another scare tactic those who don't like the Conservatives would use. Try to stick to truths, you might have more success. It is true that the Conservatives would like to see an elected Senate, but that is a little more democratic having the Canadian people elect our Senators and say how long they can serve.

The conservatives are probably more supportive our our constitutional monarch and I haven't seen anything that suggests that that the Conservatives want to go away from a representative democracy.
I would suggest the concentration of power within the PMO is effectively creating a separation between the "Executive" & "Legislative". So while Harper is the Majority leader & PM he has also taken upon himself inconjuction with the PMO to be "pseudoPresident". While it can be argued all PM's have had that type of power none have used it to the level Harper had and does. Most PM"s used the Privy Council the Harper uses the PMO.
To me the pecking order looks something like this
1) Harper
2) PMO
3) Privy Council
4) Cabinet

Yeah we use the same MREs just don't be goofing around and hot pocketing your new comrades.

The heat tabs we had back in the day needed to be lit and burned with flame. If we ever did that hot pocket thing there would most likely be a fist fight and a trip to Sick Bay.

Ever enjoyed an ice cold Bohemian?

.

Never had that one but I'll keep my eyes open for it to try.

I don't know if the Bohemian made in Ontario is the same as the one out west but the one here gives me some serious mud butt lol
Do you really think we'd let you have the good stuff? The water is what makes a beer a beer not the recipe. Molson in ON need better water sources if your getting the ****s.

We had the blue heat tabs. We hardly ever used them as there was a little flame so they were not so tactical.

We got pretty creative with the MREs though. With a little imagination they weren't so bad. We had the First Generation MREs... so I'm dating myself a bit. The MREs today are so much better.

This was our selection back in the day...

01 - Pork Pattie
02 - Ham & Chicken Loaf
03 - Beef Pattie
04 - Beef Slices in BBQ Sauce
05 - Beef Stew
06 - Frankfurters with Beans
07 - Turkey Diced with Gravy
08 - Beef Diced with Gravy
09 - Chicken Á La King
10 - Meatballs & BBQ Sauce
11 - Ham Slices
12 - Beef Ground with Spiced Sauce

Magic Pantry!

You forgot the ham omelette. Guaranteed to make you **** within 10 mins.

We didn't have that... we had the First Generation MREs. Dark brown bags and all. The better stuff came out after I got out.

That list was cut right out of the MRE menu of the time when I was in. I would have liked to try that ham omelette!

Early 80's?

Mid to late... 1985+

My favorite was the Beef Diced with Gravy. I'd mix the cheese packet into it and crush up the crackers and mix that in... then pour a lot of Tobasco Sauce (liberated from one the chow hall tables) into the packet.

I couldn't stomach the Ham Slices after I puked them up once on a force march.

I don't believe it, they are still selling C rations on the web. The stuff they issued me in 1957 when I first joined up came from WW II left overs.

The imitation Cap n' Crunch wasn't too bad if you found cold water for the powdered milk. I was in Air Cadets but an eye injury ended any hopes of ever flying so that was the end of that.

Imitation Cap'n Crunch?!?

I always though the real Cap'n Crunch was imitation food, so what the hell is the imitation stuff imitating? Yikes!

Nope. Compare the the CDN dollar to the RMB and then the US dollar as see who has the shopping power and confidence of America's biggest creditor.

Aug 3rd you'll see the CDN dollar skyrocket in comparison to the US against the RMB.

Canada, Australia and New Zealand are all benefiting from the debt crises in the US and similar problems in Europe. Just watched a segment on CTV about the rise of the dollar and you are right, petros...........it will rise more but, the analyst also warned that it is artificially high and that what goes up will come down.

That's not an artificial high. It's called gittin' out whilst the gittin's good. It will be a long long time before anyone will have the confidence to invest in the USA again. It's not a good thing to see unfold.

If you want real solutions, get anyone who has ever worked on Wall Street out of your Govt then shoot them all and hire morally sane people to handle your money because it is your money and not theirs.

Don't you mean that there is less separation in Canada between the executive and legislative branch? Parliamentary systems in general do not have the extreme separation of powers that exists in the US, due to the fact that MPs can be and are members of both branches. That tends to concentrate power in the hands of the executive and especially in the hands of the PM. If Obama had Harper's power this debt nonsense would have been solved years ago.

No, I view it as Harper is isolating himself from the Privy Council & Cabinet. He's using the PMO in place of those august bodies to create a Presidential style of government by fiat with the Commons & Senate and his majority in those Houses as a rubber stamp.
