Prince William & Kate Will Party with British Stars in L.A.

Kate Middleton, Prince William Visit L.A., Party with Young Brits : People.com

they are gearing up already.

I think the reception in America, heavy on , glitz, glamour, and promotion.. with hot and cold running celebrities pining for a bit pf cast off glitter of 'real' royalty.. and breathless media coverage.. might give the Royal Couple a hint of the difference between Canadian and American culture.

absolutely, and we can feel proud of ourselves for 'not' going overboard in that respect.

absolutely. The US SHOW OF EXTREMES will be on full display to "impress" the royals. Somehow, I think they already know the US mentality when it comes to its celeb culture. * well subculture ;-)

I just hope some gun happy idiot doesn't decide to make a "statement". The reality is that with all the bling and superficial glitz , the US is a very dangerous and violent country.

It is not a hint...........it is blatant.;-)

absolutely, and we can feel proud of ourselves for 'not' going overboard in that respect.

I am just thankful , that it is not Candian style to be so extravagant , extreme and......yes superficial. I hope we always remain "the genuine article....." as fanfare is fleeting , while substance lasts.

Canada will be such a cold, empty, heartless and dark place when their highnesses will deprive us of their gracious presence.

Fighter jets and helicopters overhead ... all sorts of activity. I think the couple spent a day in the mountains around Lake Louise - but that's a guess.

Are you in Calgary ?? Just watched their arrival there. Some disappointment by a number that they did not immediately put on their white hats. Don't think I would , if I was in such a windy area either. I am sure they have protocol for recieving and handling gifts .

Again.....handling everything with dignity but warmly personally too.

Apparently they were flown by helicopter to a secluded cabin in the mountains. (otherwise they would have had to hike quite a distance). Curious little info bit...........the cabin has no running water..........so a complete bathroom had to be installed , and was done in two parts.

Gosh, I remember the winds (and the Chinooks ) from when I lived there. Seeing the winds today brought back fun memories of the place.

Well ... yes, I am ... the fighter jets and helicoptor over my house got my attention ... figured something must be going on.

The wind is perfect ... hot, warm wind ... perfect.

We've got emergency warnings going off ... tornadoes touching down around here.

Good thing the couple weren't running late.

canada has never been a cold, empty and heartless place, even after their highnesses depart along with
their gracious presence, our country will remain vital, warm, young and ready to welcome another guest
at any time.

Prince William commented on the beautiful country and friendly people ... something like that. That isn't going to change.

I do have some concerns about the fact that their last image of Canada will be of a city where everyone dresses up like an olden day cowboy to do calf roping, bronco bucking, steer riding and chuckwagon races for 10 days ... probably quite a contrast to the glamourous hollywood ... or maybe not ... everyone is dressed up there too and it might not be "calf" roping and "bronco" bucking, but it's still happening.

Their last memory, the twangy sounds of string instrument and "oh ken tuck eeeeeeee"

I'm fine. My dogs are outside so if a twister comes near the house, I'll notice that the dogs are flying and run for the basement, away from windows and not use the telephone for the duration.

LOL........yes , that could be a very vivid last image of Canada (and it could be confusing to hear KENTUCKY in CALGARY ;-).But It will also prepare them for their US stop. (might be smart of them to take barf bags for all the genuflecting they will be subjected to )...... They will need a vacation after all this . And we will need a break from hosting VIPs...;-) fun as it is.

It is what is happening here for the next 10 days ... cowboyized oil town.

Fortunately the Royal couple will see only the civilized part.

I think I get the helicoptor and fighter jets earlier today. Yesterday, I heard a report on the news from the University President about arrangements somewhere on the grounds (endowment lands house the Children's Hospital), and then this morning I noticed that there were horses and RCMP, all sorts of events at the Children's Hospital around 9:30 AM ... where there is a helicoptor pad ... it was probably a rehearsal for the arrival this afternoon.

Sooo ... the Royal couple went to a retreat in the outback and required a bathtub? On the upside, that particular retreat now has a bathtub, on the downside it was probably an exception to Park regulations ... or was installing a bathroom a retreat group financial issue. Either way, the place will be more comfortable from now on, and exactly what sort of drainage was required?

I would like to get rid of the monarchy anyway since it is rather embarrassing to have a foreigner as head of our country.
She's not a foreigner, she's the Queen of Canada. And quite a few other places. She's not what's important anyway. What's important is the institution of the crown, all executive power is delegated from it, not the person of the monarch, and there's a Canadian crown and a British crown, which are not the same thing, though the major symbol of them sits on the same head. It's all a bit abstract beyond a certain point, but it's simply not true to say that we have a foreigner as head of state. Monarchs come and go, the crown goes on forever.

More to the point of the OP though, I'm getting a little tired of the breathlessly excited coverage of the tour, strikes me as a rather silly bit of celebrity culture, people famous for being famous, not because of any particular merit. CBC TV this morning broadcast for several minutes a picture of a door the couple was expected to come out of, while a pair of talking heads discussed in hushed and excited tones something of no relevance to anything. That's not news.

IMHO......the current visit is showing something quite different from the USUAL stuffy/ formal ones. These two seem to be enjoying themselves and since this is their job........ the way they come across is critical. Particularly after the troubles the Royal family has had. and so many of their reputations ruined. The "publiciity" is not hurting the country and each place they visit either. Even if that is not the primary purpose.

There is plenty of merit to tradition and links to history. Many times it is the foundation that offers stability.

These two are a new and contemporary face on the old form royals. and a very refreshing change. I too am not for idol worship or the crazy celeb culture. But they don't it that profile. I personally think this particular tour is being handled very well by both the host country and the guests.

yes, i totally agree, and how the media behave has nothing to do with william and kate, it is the usual
media, with their silly habits, I just try to blank them out, and watch will and kate, a nice couple who
are enjoying themselves in our country. Watched them at the stampede having fun, and william was very
interested in knowing how everything works, and they looked great in their western garb.

I do not give one second of my time to stare at celebrities, and I don't consider these two in that way,
just a couple of nice young people, part of the monarchy, part of our heritage and tradition, visiting
all of us for a while, kind of nice.

What do you expect? Is Prince William famous for any particular merit?

Bravo. Well said. and I still feel kind of special as a Canadian that our country was chosen for their first official tour. Notice how fast the US was to add themselves to the visit??? It was nice of William and Catherine to organize their visit to include them.
