So why Machjo, with Free Trade in complete control of the World Economy, with Monetarism (free trade and de-nationalization of currency and credit), are we in such a desperate and chaotic economic environment. With all the promises that were made to us about the great prosperity Free Trade would bring us, why are we by every measure becoming poorer. Look at the 1950's and 60's, prior to the onset of the radical free market paradigm in 1971 (with the rescinding the Bretton Woods Currency Agreement and subsequent Free Trade Agreements).
Can Canadian families afford and house, two cars, send their kids to college, provide for a secure retirement on ONE income as they could in the 50's. What is the condition of the Canadian family now... drowning in debt, struggling to meet mortgage payment, working on 'contract' with no pensions or benefits. There kids go to college and come out so inundated with debt, they have little prospect of buying a house or starting a family for years, a decade and more.
Our transportation and energy infrastructures are falling apart. What industries we have left are being taken over by Global interests. Our tax system has become increasingly regressive.. only one of the factors leading to the vast polarization of wealth, into the hands of the few associated with Global Trading interests, or high technology jobs that can employ at most 20% of labour force.
We've been lied to. The Free Market paradigm is an unmitigated disaster for all except those willing to gouge and exploit the labour of others.. like the banks, investment and trading houses.
