You have to admit though, while conservatives may have convinced the public they have some fiscal credibility.. but what about social conservatism?
What about it? He said he won't revist key social issues.

Those big corporate tax cuts and oil industry loans and subsidiaries
That old trickle down effect
Yep that feeds families...

To what point? At what point is there an issue more important?

Ok so you feed them now, but Harper and his generous dealings with big business keep taking more. Feed your family now and starve your nation later...

or

Buckle the belt tighter, bear down and let us change together
For our kids, for our community, for our country, for our species and planet
Hey, you live your way, I'll live mine.

I support my family first, always.

Yes of course

But what I am getting at is support them in the short term (couple measly tax breaks/credits)

Or support them for the long run, like having a nation in good global standing, having pride in our morals, a healthy economy where feeding of families is not a priorty for it is a given. We live in Canada, food should never be an issue. If it is then why? Because governments allow corporations to have the same "freedoms" as people. But also the freedom to "rape" us in fine print.

Conservatives give corporations more power over us... (meaning we lose in the long run)

Do not trust corporations
I work with many of them and my network is full of exectives
My true issue is any government that empowers corporations and the conservatives do just that more than any other party. I mean they all do it, but Harper is the worst I have even seen in Canada

And it is not doom and gloom...
It is just the true reality of how money and the economy works
Money is the medium of exchange, control that and you control the people
Fine print does just that
(this is all in simple terms of course, as there is much more to it)

It is a catch 22

In our current society we need their services to compete. Yet to get their services we must sign contracts. We become slaves to the contracts with which we must sign for their services' that we HAVE to have (in order to compete). They get to say "well, if you do not like our contract, do not use our service. It is a free country, no one forces you to..." But we are forced to, in order to compete

Do you really want a government to empower such organizations enmass? Conservatives do just that

PS I work in corporate financial law

Well just popped into the news sites on my lunch break and what do I see?

A Conservative Major'a'tee....

With all the lies, corruption & contempt for our Democracy that's been exposed to Canadians since Harper has been Prime Minister, I'd say I was surprised to hear he got a Majority..... but then again, who was I kidding to think the majority of people in Canada would actually vote based on common sense...... I don't think that's ever been done, so why would it start now?

Just my opinion of course......

But I do see some positives coming out from this election:

#1 - Now that Harper has a Majority Government, everybody can truly see what he's capable of doing having full control over things..... thus if the country goes further into the crap-hole, not even Conservative supporters can blame the other parties for it happening.

#2 - The other positive is that the NDP have formed their first position on the Federal level, as the Main Opposition, and no longer can the Conservatives rely on the Liberals to swindle their way through by using the Liberals supporting many of their plans, while at the same time, the Liberals play the good cop / bad cop routine of finger pointing at the Cons for doing something evil.... which they themselves supported. Now that the NDP are main opposition, They will have a larger voice in pointing out wrong-doings by Harper & the Cons.

^ The bad thing about that, is that since Harper has a Majority, and since he has the rest of his party members to do as he commands, he doesn't have to rely on opposition support in the first place and can still do whatever he pleases.

I congratulate the Conservatives on their win..... but I won't congratulate Canada or Canadians, because there's nothing here to Congratulate for the average, middle-class citizen.

I do hope Harper with his Majority, will finally start doing the right things for the country and for his fellow Canadians...... but that hope is pretty small these days and there hasn't been much evidence to back that hope.

Good luck.... you're all going to need it now.

Added:

I forgot to mention, there is yet another positive that came from this election, which I imagine many in here could agree with:

The Bloc.Q have been almost completely wiped out thanks to the NDP.

And an additional positive is that Iggy and Duceppe have both lost their seats...... and the Liberals have fallen worse then they did when Dion led them.

Now the Government and the country is divided between, what many would say, Far Left & Far Right with the Conservatives on one side and the NDP on the other.

Harper has run a pretty clean ship compared to past elected dictators. He isn't as disliked as the vocal minority wants everyone to think.

I believe that the NDP and Conservatives will see eye-to-eye on many issues - not that it matters with such a clear, convincing and magnificent majority.
