Because they don't grow enough food to feed themselves. And they are a long way from democracy to increase productivity in their economy. Since 1950, their population has grown to 80 million people, from 20 million. I read only one country in Africa can feed itself, South Africa. The third world doesn't feed itself.

Egypt's Food Problem In A Nutshell

Egypt's Food Problem In A Nutshell

Egypt is reported to be the world’s largest importer of wheat. In 2010, the oil minister stated that Egypt imports 40% of its food, and 60% of its wheat. The problem this year is that world wheat production is down (at least in part due to weather problems in Russia) so world exports are down:

I'm bored because the golf course isn't open yet. We don't have any Egyptians or Arabs on the course.

The Gov in that time was under the control of the Western Governments and Businesses. Their practice is to set up huge farms to grow one or two crops that end up being major exports, that is what creates the demand for imports. If Egypt grew just food for local consumption then the world would have to find another source for the goods Egypt exports. If the Nile was siphoned almost dry (as in the Colorado) then production could also increase.
If they started growing food instead of cotton then we would have to start growing hemp in order to cloth ourselves ...... never mind the rest. How do we sneak them some new wheat seed-drills?

Aren't you supposed to declare a 'safe zone' first? Just to keep you from becoming part of the suffering 'world'.

If I grew gasoline we wouldn't be using ethanol?
If you fed an engine fumes from boiling gasoline would you get get better mpg's?

Back to boiling 'wood chips' then, which plant gives off the most carbon monoxide? Rather than make it 'on the go' why not a do it at home boiler and compress the gas into an old propane tank (with appropriate mods) All you would need for heat is a solar powered boiler (Fresnel lens)

I can imagine this happening in urban area's like North-Central & the Core
in Regina where most housing lots are 25ft wide, with eves troughs almost
touching, & in some cases overhanging each other. Poor fire hazard....the
fire department & insurance companies might object, I'd assume.

Half of those houses would be the 'fuel' then, I doubt if things became that bad that there would be more than 1 vehicle per block.

Obviously a plan that burns up half your fuel to make the other half is not the best solution, during the depression it was used by farmers to run their tractors.

City dwellers even today would love a town car that was just electric, some days I only go 5 miles so I don't need a 200 mile limit.

Today this would be my 'preferred town car' lol

Maybe only this certain floor model has a rock for the gas pedal. Be better suited to golf course or bike paths. I'm sure the 80hp model is almost as exciting as the 500 version. The powerplant should almost be a bolt-in for the Legend Series race cars. How about a 40ft top clay topped and point A to point B can be from 2 mi to 200 mi?

The one above looks it would be great for parking lots and those quick trips to the store.

I'm bored because the media presents the optimistic idea that things will change for the better in Arab countries. They are not likely to anytime soon. They need about a dozen revolutions to get any where near modern. The countries in Asia and Africa are extremely conservative and we are now hearing about the same old same old.

Oh the struggle for self determination is always boring, what won't bore is when the
fundamentalists take over and deliver hate speech against us while we send them
food and other products. These people will fight until all the food is gone and then
they will blame us for their plight. We are supporting one group of dictators over
another group of dictators in waiting.
I would hope that no matter who is running the show, when the first negative comments
about us are blown up on television screens I hope we cut off all food, medical and
humanitarian aid. This could get past the boring stage if that happens. Remember
Egypt is not the only arena where these people are plotting against their dictators,
their own people and eventually against the west.
The way its going you won't be bored for long.

Oh no, I'll be bored. It's always someone else causing their problems, never them. They don't believe in progress and improvement.

How can you improve on G/god/Allah? It is perfect. Just cut your hair the right way, or go to church/mosque on a regular basis, and say the proper prayers, and all will be well. They like the 12th century, let them have it.

Maybe you should find out who is giving them guns instead of tractors? If there has been little progress that is because it has been run the same as Iran was between 1953-1079. The trend is two classes of people, the elite and the poor, no different than their masters, the Royals of old Europe.

It's not about giving, gifts are worthless. They will kill each other with rocks if they have to. A tractor is a sophisticated too they don't get. It's a big change.

The problems these countries have are complex, but what they lack is a middle class. People who want to work to get ahead. The elite are often rentiers, like in Saudi Arabia, they just want to live off the oil wealth and will worry when its gone. Bangladesh can't do that, nor can most countries who are like Bangladesh in Asia and Africa. The price of food is not going down and these countries can't feed themselves. I see some issues developing soon.

Lazy elites and masses who are also lazy, but are being held back by class and religion.

In Europe however, and North America, the mddle class grew to run things and feed themselves. Is Asia/Africa moving toward the West this way? Some countries are, China, Japan, S Korea, Taiwan, Singapore.

True, education in the methods of permaculture would be more helpful to them than training in which side of the machette to us to lop off a limb in a single swipe. We say '**** that' when the news that it would raise our cell air-time fees to double what it is now. To sum up a complex subject

Europe had to control most of the world before they could 'feed themselves'. Their methods are some of the most brutal of all. Creating conflict is their trademark.
