I'd create a new formula for MP pensions that ties their pensions to a performance based index that factors in things like the unemployment rate, taxation rate, strength of the dollar, and quality of life for Canadians.

I wouldn't go that far. I'd give MPs (and all civil servants) the opportunity to do RRSPs with the employer matching up to 5% contributions. Period. End of story.

I do not believe in defined benefit pensions.

....and we have seen how well the the market protects pensions.

I see no problem with a defined benefit pension as long as it isn't excessive and the numbers add up. Isn't that what CPP is in effect?

You didn't answer my question Ray.

....and you're wrong.

you are an old fart, born before 1945, no? if so, its 10382+6446 lines 300 and 301 on the schedule 1 of the T1 general

....and we have seen how well the the market protects pensions.

yes, lets find a corporation that is in debt like Canada is, and if they have screwed their workers out of a pension, we should do the same with all of our politicians.

:)

You pay zero if you make 10,382 in 2011.

Above that until 41,544 you pay 15%.

Still didn't answer my question Ray.

thats right, but who does that apply to? not any productive member of Canada, it wont matter if its 10k or 15k it doesn't affect me. however, for someone in retirement, they have the extra 6k credit already.

no you aren't right because you aren't looking at the greater picture. RevCan loves lemmings that dont look at the whole picture, all they have to do is play around with the numbers a little and they can get you to think just about anything.

Well there's a famous quote:

"A liberal is someone who feels a great debt to his fellow man, which debt he proposes to pay off with your money "
— G. Gordon Liddy "

If you're going to quote Liddy, I have to ask: how long can you hold your hand over an open flame before you flinch?

This thread would more appropriately be called "If I were a dictator....."

If I were Prime minister, I would eliminate any and all forms of affirmative action and establish a Commission to treat political correctness as the HRC treats human rights violation.

On a serious note, I propose to built a four lane Inter Province Highway to replace the Trans Canada Highway, (or at least improve it to such standard, where possible) so one could travel from Halifax to Vancouver without impeded by traffic lights and having to drive through every little town along the way.

I made that journey last summer, and I was shocked. There were alot of places in central canada where it certainlly didn't match the name "TransCanada Highway"

and even the highway between NorthBay to Ottawa was merely a 60kph twisty windy road, hardly a highway for full sized transports to be travelling.

Ah, yes I am.

See, this is where you fail.

I suggested a flat tax with the first 15,000 free and kill all loopholes.

Then you proceeded to blather on about the current system that you didn't even get right.

Now, are you gonna answer my question Ray?

The Trans Canada Highway doesn't go within 100 km of Halifax, but there is a decent highway to get you there.

I'd bring this country to it's economic knees, and use the proceeds to fund some sweatshop in China.
